To Video or Not to Video

Booked my first lesson today, £14 for half hour (is this good?)

I asked about video and the pro said he doesnt put it on his laptop, basically just uses a camcorder and the screen on the side.

Not sure how i am gonna structure my lessons but starting with half an hour to see what the crack is.

Hope he doesnt tell me too switch my hands round. Not even sure what i want him to work on. Tommorow at 18:00, i will report back with the results!

Seems good. Can't see the putting the vid on a laptop is useful unless it can't be seen otherwise. We used to buggy it back to the clubhouse and plug it into a telly. £14 seems excellent. Good luck with it.

I looked up the Vicar's Cross course....looks ok....is it £35?

Yes Dave its £35 but if you ever wanted to play, my bro in law is a junior member so we get on for £15. Is the club i am looking at joining.

This is not where i am having lessons though. I am having them at the range i have been using since i started playing. (sandfields)

I may ask the pro if he could video my swing with my phone as the cam is near dvd quality and i can take it away with me too and show you guys

Neither my old nor my new pro charge any extra for video, nor would I expect them to - a lesson is a lesson. Both have a basic fee of £25/lesson with the only difference coming in the way they discount multiples. One is 5/£100, the other 6/£125.

The way i see it, we all watch a lot of pro golf, us being golf nuts and all. Ergo we generally know what a good swing looks like. If, when we see our swing on DVD/Video, it has as much in commen with Tigers as dental floss does to a carrot, we can accurately see that we are doing something wrong.... Much better than being told.

The heart does not believe what the eyes do not see.....

I agree entirely with what people are saying about not paying extra for a video lesson. At the end of the day you pay for the pros time, and whether that be spent using cameras and a computer or merely watching and physically adjusting somebodies swing it makes no difference.

My pro uses it most of the time - say 6 out of the last 8 lessons. And what's good about his system is the split screen option whereby you can see two shots at the same time - a good one and a bad one - and see what you're doing differently. This I find v. helpful - especially if you can see it within a few moments of actually hitting the shot.( I suppose you can do the split yourself if you know what you're doing - but not instantly). A bit more gimmicky, but still useful, is having yourself and a tour pro on screen at same time. Apparently I have a swing identical to that of Adam Scott - until I start moving that is..
