I played on Monday evening and it was the first time in a month and I was cronic. It got so bad I threw my glove away in frustration and played the last 7 holes in 2 over par woithout one.

Here is my dilema:

Why do we wear them?

What benefit do we get ?

Are we influenced because the tour players wear them ?

I always wear a glove except for shots from within 50 yards of the green when I take it off because I think it gives me better feel.

I think a glove does offer you better levels of grip compared to without so you don't need to grip the club over tightly

The one I cant understand is why some golfers wear a glove when they are putting!

Probably because he is too lazy to take it off. Bit too much like exercise.

Don't like not wearing a glove, feels wrong. Also keeps sweaty hands from grip in the summer (If we get one).

After playing for 3 years without one I am back using a glove and it now feels strange and wrong not to use one apart from when putting.

I only bought one as was playing alot and felt the skin on my left hand getting a bit rough in parts.

I wouldn't say a glove is essential, definately a personal thing however there must be something to it for all pro's to continue wearing them. I know some people at my club that have spent a small fortune (in my eyes) on gloves and it does make me wonder if it's all a scam.

The last seven holes you played on Monday probably had nothing to do with wearing a glove or not wearing a glove, I put it down to 'not caring' and as a result you played without thinking too much about what you were doing right or wrong.......

I was on a residential instruction course for some time ago and one of the other guys on the course had rather a fierce grip. This was evident in the way his glove wore through in a matter of few days with all the intense training and practice we had. The pro took him aside on the last day, just before we went out to play on a new course for the first time, ands said to the chap to think of his club as a beautiful woman and to gently take her (the club ) in his hands. To which the guy answered, I am, my ex beld me dry!

If you're getting blisters like that then there is something wrong with your grip and the club is moving about in your hands. Try putting a tee in between your left pinkie and the grip ans take a swing. The tee although lightly held should not drop out if your grip is sound. (assumption that you are a RH golfer)

I used to wear my glove on the wrong hand. -It started way before I owned any golf kit when I was an eager 11 year old on my local pitch and putt course and ended up with a really dirty right hand following a round, while the left hand was clean.

When I got round to buying a glove, found out that you only use a single glove it seemed natural that it should go on the hand that ended up with bits of rubber all over it.

This lasted into my 20s when I realised every other righty played with a left hand glove- I assume I must have had a very bottom handed swing in my youth.
