You probably all guessed before opening but seriously thinking of taking driver out altogether for time being....

Before Christmas was driving well but last few times I've played I've been awful with it and costing me shots. Even on range I've been atrocious.

It only goes about 20 yards further anyway than my 3 wood which I'm more consistent with.... Though that can be difference for GIR on some holes....

So do I persevere or ditch altogether? Leaving in I just end up tempted

Maybe just ditch from the bag out on the course for a bit until you have dialled it in on the range again, then unleash the beast on your poor foes!

Ditch it for a while but still practice with it and when the time is right you will put it back in. I have done this a few times 😃

I used to be terrible with a driver - not so bad now though.
I dropped the driver many a time.
Biggest problem I found was using the 3 wood against the wind. Knowing it wouldn't go as far I always tried to give it a little more and simply ended up ballooning it.
I had a similar problem the other day. My new driver hasn't arrived yet and I was trying a new shaft in my 3 wood -nwhich didn't work out - so was "driving" with a 19° 5 wood. Instead of just hitting a 5 wood shot I seemed to always want to smack the case off the ball - yo7 can guess the results!

Bench the driver but take it to the range and practice with it.
When you feel better with it bring it back but use it sparingly on holes that have less trouble. Get the confidence back.

Drop it. GIR doesn't matter just now.

Get on the fairway, then to within 50 yards of the green (this should be achievable with little effort).

Then, practice, practice, practice your pitching and chipping (we should meet up for a hit on the practice range) so that you can hit the green every time and then 2 putt every time.

Congrats, you're now an 18 handicapper!

Just about a perfect answer IMO :D
