Just spotted that on twitter, the next golf fad I guess!

Indeedio, but seems a little similar to the Mizuno MP600 range that had these a few years ago?

Well that takes care of this weeks new driver from TM, anyone got any ideas what they are bringing out next week?

A new ball, they were running a comp on twitter for suggestions for a new name. I suggested the "Taylormade Xenophobe" as the comp was only open to US citizens.

Brilliant they bring out another driver how many is that this year including the black R1! I think its 4 this year isn't it now!

Next week they bringing out another new one called the MUG!

But its not "out" yet, it is a prototype for tour players for now, they usually showcase their new retail kit coming towards the end of the year. It might well make the market before then but I would be surprised.

Its also not compulsory that anyone buys it. There are tens of millions of golfers in the world. Not all of them buy a driver every year. Some only buy every 2,3,4,5 or even 6 years. If TM think there's a market then they are fully entitled to try and supply it.

This isn't a "im a TM fanboi so i'm going to defend them post, more an insight!"

is it really that much of a big deal? if people are stupid enough to listen to marketing people (not just TM i might add) then more fool them and their money if they go and buy every new version of a club.

If people buy golf clubs because of the resale value, again, crazy IMHO.

If you are in the market to buy a new driver, go to somewhere with decent stocks, decent fitting equipment with a range of shafts and buy what works best. who cares if its end of line in 3 months? the exact thing happens when you buy anything Apple (ok not quite, but hey the point is relevant)

TM (and all the main line brands) are profit making companies with shareholders to keep happy. they are in the business of selling as many clubs as possible, people seem to forget this sometimes...

Spot on, the likes of Acer, Dell etc bring out dozens of models each year which can be more expensive than golfing gear.
Buy what you need, not what they can sell you.

Agreed entirely. There simply isn't that much difference between clubs released in the same couple of years that you'd need to buy more than one in that time. However, if you're in the market for a new big stick then for me, the more options the better. Nothing to stop you buying an R1 / RBZ II once this new one comes out if you hit them better.

But if there's not much between them, why have the extra choices..?
Is the R1 actually that much different to the R11...? I mean in real performance terms? And is the R11S really slap, bang in the middle..?
This goes for all the manufacturers who constantly release new gear.
If there's little gain from one driver to the next, why release the new one? Let the old one run for 6 months/a year more , then bring out something that really does boost performance..

Someone upgrading from the R9 or R5 range has 3 "R" series and 2 "RBZ" series to choose from. Yes, there are differences in adjustability but in real terms there isn't going to be a million miles between any of them for the "real" golfer.

that looks cheap and nasty. not a fan of the R1 either. its as if fisher price had a hand in its design.

it may well be a great driver but really lacking in looks!

like car companies.......plus it does give you...erm...choice

So the big question is ... What the hell does the SLDR do.. the knob at the back (not referring to Darren pl) looks like some form a sliding device - that explains the 'SLiDeR' name. I am assuming that you can adjust how open/close the face is or how the weight is distributed. Cant see how they can change the loft with that arrangement..
