What difference to a golf club does the tip size make???

Tip size is only relevant to whether a shaft fits a clubhead. Do you mean tip stiffness?

It doesn't make any difference to playablity it's down to the manufacturers specification of the hosel diameter and whether it's parallel or tapered.
