Tiger withdraws

I hope you treat your friends the same way you do in respect to tigers bedroom antics as I am sure we all know someone who has done it.

He wasnt playing that badly though he was about level par so hardly a bad round. If he feels a twinge then hes stupid if he doesnt pull out same as any other top athlete.

And John Daly gets stick for withdrawing!

Daly walked off cause he had the hump, not exactly the same thing is it.

I can't believe people are questioning Tiger having an injury, you honestly think he would walk off cause he's having a bad day? Any old excuse to have a pop.

I have no words for this tweet by Kelly Tilghman;

@KellyTilghmanGC: Great job by our colleagues at @NBCSports on their coverage of Tiger Woods' withdrawal today.

She was deadly serious....and that is precisely what is wrong with american golf coverage.

Whatever the ins and outs of Tiger's injury I do seem to recall way back when Jack was asked about his record of major wins and whether it could be beaten he said something along the lines of it would depend not only on being good enough but on whether anyone could stay fit enough for long enough and commented on his own good luck in that respect. Could be he was spot on.

Thought I heard on SSNews that it's the same Achilles he hurt at the Masters.
So there may be some weakness there.
Either way it's not looking good.
He needs to rest it but he needs to prepare for Augusta - and they don't go hand-in-hand.

I do wonder if this is an inevitable consequence of the modern athletic golf swing. Tiger transformed the way the younger generation swings. Is this evidence that there is a limited timespan that the body can endure that level of stress?

I would not be surprised to see Rory having issues in 10 years time.

We have been used to seeing players still competing into their 40s, but is that going to be possible for the guys that lash it a la Tiger?

There's lashing it, and lashing it though. Tiger bulked up hugely, and has an almost violent golf swing. A bit like Greg Norman.

Other big hitters, like Bubba and DJ seem a bit more rythmical, and don't appear to have this internal battle with stopping bits of the body to hold onto the power, putting silly amounts of stress into their joints. Heck, Bubba can't even keep his feet on the ground, and DJ doesn't bother doing up his shoe laces properly.

Rory, I think will get back issues later in life.

JB and a few others do bludgeon the ball, but almost not with a golf swing. Not sure if Baseball players pick up the same injuries as golfers?

I am sure Tiger was hurting, but it may have made for a more plausible story if he had headed to the physio room rather than jumping straight into his Merc and heading off.

Would have thought he'd get a proper medical assessment first!
