Tiger wasn't using it as an excuse. No chance. He did the sensible thing and walked off.
The coverage of him from the blimp was laughable. I'm not a big Tiger fan but even if he never wins another even he'll always have legend status IMO.
But. Golf in 2012 doesn't need him. He's actually a negative point. Every event he plays in gets ruined by the coverage being totally focused on him. We're forced to watch him drop clubs, swear, look moody and not even challenge seriously. At the same time theres other top players, playing much better that hardly get a shot of coverage.
Tiger brings in the viewing figures but most of the extra viewers aren't genuine golf fans. Those people are just Tiger fanboys, who don't care about the actual game of golf.
The event at Doral was almost ruined by Tiger Woods and the coverage. He can be 10-15 off the lead and you'll see every single shot, yet even when Rory made a charge you only saw a few shots untill he got within a few of the lead.
I think The Masters will be better without him. The rest of the players will get the coverage they deserve then.
