Apparently Tiger Woods is set to miss the Open because of the birth of his first child

What's the view on this? I have not yet had the pleasure of becoming a father so am probably unqualified to comment, but attending the birth is a relatively new thing isn't it? Years ago men were either in the pub with a pint awaiting news from the hospital or on the golf course. Will he look back with regret if he wins all of the other three Majors and therefore misses the chance of a grand slam?

All you fathers out there, go easy on me....I'm just trying to spark a debate

The story I saw only said he would miss it *if* the baby looked like making an entrance during that week. I would have thought that Tiger and the missus would have planned things so that he or she would show up between the US Open and the Open, for example. Only if the nipper is a couple of weeks late would that affect his chances of playing at Carnoustie.

As for which is more important, I'm not qualified to say. I suppose he could win many more Opens but he'll never experience the birth of his first child again.

It's a bit of a shame because to see him win 3 times in a row would be great, as I think it's only been done once before. Also he has so much money now he can just pick when he want's to play, does that spoil things? The birth of a first child is a very special thing though.

Didn't Nick Faldo's wife get induced so the birth didn't coincide with the majors? I think Tiger will definately take this option if he wins the Masters and the US Open and the arrival is going to clash with the Open. While he has mellowed over the last few year's I can't see him passing up the opportunity for the grand slam.
