Just amongst an ear shattering storm, following yesterdays equally loud one. Had me thinking I tend to associate them with warm summers evenings, been pretty cold the last couple of days here.

Just my memory, or is this a little unusual?

Any time when there are distinct temperature differentials and high saturation (in one of the regions) is likely to produce thunderstorms.

Winter was unusually 'mild' though - little, if any, snow in South East, relatively few frosts. A bit much rain though!!

Blame it on the Jet Stream! Not on Global Warming, though that's happening and will cause climate change.

I think todays that we've just had is down to the warm air moving in from Europe hitting the cold air over us at the moment, the weather forecast last night said it could get lively.

Had a great thunderstorm today at work which was set off with a brilliant rainbow at the same time.
One of the most amazing weather views I have ever seen.

Used to get some really great dry thunderstorms in Cyprus - used to enjoy watching them come down from the mountains and then out to sea

Remember a good few years back, I was lyning in bed and heard a massive bang, I thought something had exploded, ruled out thunder as it was snowing, but that's what it turned out to be, a massive bolt of lightening had come to ground and unluckily hit a gas pipe in the grounds of an old peoples home. I remember the local news showing flames coming out of the ground.
