As above, thinking of a blog more for my own benefit, like a brain dump after my rounds. I keep all my stats etc but they don't tell you the full picture, like the few great shots etc and how I felt on the day and with my performance etc. Take this weekend for instance hit 109, a pants score but felt my game coming together and felt good afterwards but a few horror holes wiped the card out, while also playing some of the best holes I've ever played! So I can record all this and look back later and gauge my improvement better overall.

So what do people think, those that have done these before have they felt that they've helped or not? Any advice gladly taken.

Many thanks for reading.

Personal notes or some sort of stat keeper would be handier to be honest.
Blunt but no offence intended Evesdad, I would much rather read the blog of someone trying to get onto the tour than someone trying to break the ton. We have all been where you are and are heading, it just wouldnt be for me though.

At the risk of sounding harsh, unless you have something different to say, or have fantastic literary abilities or wonderful photos, it will be hard to distinguish your blog from gazillions of other ones out there. If it works for you as a cathartic form of psychotherapy, go for it, but you may not get many loyal readers.

The easier option is just to record your scores and stats (fairways hit, greens hit, putts) on a spreadsheet. You can also add info on what the bad shots were (hook, slice, top, thin etc) and it may give you an idea where to work.

No offence taken at all!! Like I said not really looking to set the liteary world alight or looking for follows just a place to get things off my chest and something I can go back to at a later date. In six months time on my stats the last round will be a distant memory and some of the great shots will be forgotten, maybe just typing it out a journal on the mac maybe a better option for instance I just thought a blog maybe eAsier to access and set up etc.

got me thinking evesdad, would fancy doing something similar

its ok having stats (I use golfshot from my iphone) but doesnt always tell the whole story

I also want to have sections for practice and so forth as I always forget drills etc. I will have a peruse see if there is any 'free' software or something online

Gents I wrote one for nearly two years and it was more of a hindrance than a help for me. I'd suggest giving it a wide berth. What will happen is that you'll use it as a space to critique yourself. This means reliving nightmare moments and creating a 'negative personal image'. It's no coincidence that shortly after I changed my approach to focusing on only the positives that I broke 90 for the first time.

Keep your stats. Use those to identify what to work on. Buy a journal and after every round write down in detail the best shots you hit that day. Get yourself a copy of Rotella's 'Your 15th Club' as well. These things will help you infinitely more than a blog. Trust me :)

Hope this helps

I use golfshot too, great stats and graphs but as we've said not the whole picture. Great idea on practice as well hadn't thought of that.

Thanks tiger you were one of the people I was thinking of and knew that you had found it hard recently in doing one, if I do go this route or the journal it would be mainly for the positive side of things my stats show me the full horrors!!

its a shame golfshot data cant be imported, except manually. I had a good peruse last night and couldnt find anything noteworthy to use. Might just have to be something cobbled together. I dont thing a blog is the ideal solution as really what you/me is wanting is just a personal record as opposed to something of much interest to others

Think I may just do it as a journal on the mac, it would have to be typed as my writing is awful!! Could add some stats from golfshot such as fir & GIR and putts and then a brief break down of the round such as in high scoring holes what the cause was such a wild slice of tee etc. I like the idea of practice secessions and drills used et

Go for it. Basically use it like an online diary. Can be great to look back on as well. I used to have one for my fourball but the other guys lost interest in golf as the weather got worse and the local football season started so I abandoned it, but it's still there ready to roll if I ever want to.

Oh and I can't recommend wordpress enough. Very very easy to use and you can always make it private to stop other reading. Does away with worrying about back ups etc if you were to base it on a computer and is accessible anywhere you have internet access.
