been down the driving range 3 times this week hitting 200 balls each time.

driving and short game seem fine (will be different on a course i assume ), putting isnt so great mind.

will do a few more visits to the range before i go on the course i want to get a clean swing and consistancy before i get in peoples way!

even found myself watching it on tv this morning, i watched it last year and thought it was boring! shame on me!

Ohh it's very different on the course. You know those balls you mishit on the range.. Yeah, you have to go play from wherever the heck that ends up :D

Speaking as a fellow new starter though, I know what you mean. I love just getting on course. I might hack all over, play like a numpty and walk back to my car thinking "Why?" but by the time I'm home I'm looking forward to the next time to get out and work on sorting everything that went wrong last time.

if i could afford it id be down there everyday!

im currently trying to improve my accuracy im not bothered to much about getting a long drive but straight and consistant would be nice!

may go around the course next week with my dad as he will make me look better, and i can ge him to pay as a birthday treat haha, all of this is because i said to my father in law id play in a charity tournement he set up for september...

I'd recommend you get on the course straight away. The range is fine but it is NOTHING like the golf course.

Weather is supposed to be improving so get out there in the evening when it's quiet and you shouldn't get in anyones way.

when is it normally quiet? i have all day everyday next week, i was avoiding weekends and thought evenings would of been busy after people had finished work?

Depends on the course obviously but midweek afternoons and evenings are the best time. TBH you'd probably be ok anytime apart from Saturday/Sunday morning/early afternoon.

thats ok then, i just dont want to get in peoples way as it will take me some time for my 1st ever round! i use whitley golf club in Melksham. seems alright there but i havnt compaired it to anything yet. any tips for my 1st course round?

All the things I still can't quite manage - take your time & remember everything you've been practicing. Most of all enjoy it!

Re getting in peoples way if you can feel people catching you up just wave them on. We all had to start somewhere and you can't stay on the range forever!

Try not too worry about other players. I think a lot of new players seem to think all players on golf courses are semi pro but when you get out there you'll soon find out that standards aren't as high as you think. And remember even the pro's can hit their balls miles off line.

You've got the right idea, putting accuracy about length. No good being long if it's long in the boondocks

Please, please have a lesson and soon.
If you can't afford one, here's a suggestion.
Get a video of you hitting balls, upload it to youtube and post a link on here. There's lots of folk on here who can give you advice.
There's no point standing bashing balls on the range if you don't know what you're doing.

Now, about your putting.......
