Following on from the electric car thread what things are currently on your car that would happily do without.

For me it would be
Automatic lights
Automatic windscreen wipers
Central locking
Automatic rear view mirror dimming.
The feature that does not let me drive with the door open
Driver side electric window
Rear passenger electric windows
Parking sensors (although they are useful at times)

That’s crazy talk, all of the above are very helpful.
For me it’s lane assist, I turn mine off as soon as I get in the car.

They might be helpful but are not essential.

I would turn off lane assist if I had it
I already turn off some of the auto stuff such as lights and windscreen wipers.

Parcel shelf. I always take it out and leave it at home. In the Fiesta I have a seat down and put the clubs through vertically so the parcel shelf used to get knocked off every time I took them out. Just got rid of it. I don't really think they serve any function at all. I don't put parcels on it, I chuck them on one of the seats!

I like auto lights and washers but otherwise I could lose most of the gadgets and gizmos on my car. Cruise control, never used it, aircon, nice but I used to survive with a window and a sun roof, electric windows, really not that necessary.

Safety features I acccept are a necessity.

Really what it I would like is a law whereby all new cars had to be designed so as the most basic mainenance (changing all bulbs, changing a fuse, changing the oil), relacing the battery, changing wiper blades etc) should be achievable at home with a basic tool kit. That would also mean that basic tasks could also be done at the road side in an emergency.

I would have a basic car with a radio and ABS that’s it.

Maybe if drivers didn’t think the car will save and protect them they might learn to drive properly.

plus a phone blocking coil over the drivers head. So allowing passengers to use them but not the driver.

We’ve been through that time and it didn’t go how you are wanting or hoping it would.

Auto lights is the only thing I don’t like. Over here it’s mandatory to have dipped headlights on when going through roadworks. Many drivers have got out of the habit of ‘managing’ their headlights. Fines aplenty, and the Spanish are chasing revenue.

Yes used to get a fine for headlights in the Mersey tunnel.
now most cars have them on due to auto lights.

Cruise Control - never used it...don't even know how to..
Flick indicator...press the stalk down and the indicators flash 3 times.....useless...

I'll teach you when I next see you! Game-changing in roadworks and variable speed limits! 👍🏻

Oh yes, I’ll add adaptive cruise control. Car overtakes you and pulls in a bit sharpish, your car slows down. Car comes down a slip road and ‘jumps’ in front of you, your car slows down. Damn nuisance.

Used both of those features loads today.

Do you not need to slow down anyway to maintain a reasonable distance?
I really miss not having it on my current car. Didn’t think I would, but I do.

For some bizarre reason, my '09 fat golf is able to parallel park itself.
Has anyone in the world ever used this, and do modern cars have it??

Re the original list, I habe all those things except the interlock/power thingy and love them all!
