You have to often be very specific when looking for military records especially using Ancestry

Try the below links I've tried to make them go to as specific locations as possible. Ancestry isn't to bad if you know exactly what you're looking for. Forces War records tends to be more accurate as does the National archives. If you can input ideally things like places of birth dates of birth and if you know it what regiment or years they served you'll have a much better chance of finding what you're looking for.

But for the best possible chance and records use the MOD request of records link, that will detail exactly what you need to do to apply for Freedom of information records relating solely a past relative only. It'll give you a full break down of their service, regiments and military record such as locations served and honours awarded. If you need any help give me a shout I should be able to point you in the right direction, we got my Grandads full service history, copies of his POW record and post war interviews written in his own hand writing.

I win pretty easily if we play normally, but we played a match where we both played left-handed - she is ambidextrous and I'm very much not so this was actually very close. I shaded it 24-22! (Annoyingly one of the gym staff walked through while we were playing, so he must have just thought I was completely useless, haha.)

I simply clicked on the banner for Free access to Wartime Records on the Ancestry Home page - though I could search straight from the simply search box with the banner

You can do that and get lucky but if you have a name that is common or any details which are ambiguous you get a lot of results back that don't narrow it down. I've a common surname and my grandads first name was very common at the time so we got literally 100s of people so we had to be a lot more specific with our search

Ah that'll be it...not many of my grandfather's name and I knew he was born in Blair Atholl, Perthshire and his approx DoB, and that narrowed it right down.

I'm ignoring much, if not most, of the UK and world news at the moment as too much of it really saddens, irritates or annoys me - and there is nothing for me to gain by that as there is nothing I can do about any of it. I simply cannot go around with my head filled with angers, frustrations and irritations over things that I can do nothing about.

I find that my day-to-day life is so much more pleasant when I simply think on and sort out things that I can do and affect - and accept that there is much that I cannot change or influence, and so should put that stuff to the side (in a box as it were) - not totally forget about it but not bother about it until a day might come when I have to take some or all of it out of that box and think further on it. That day I might determine to do something about it - or put it back in the box. Meanwhile I need room in my head to deal with the stuff, especially the difficult stuff, that comes my way - because life is life - good and bad, easy and difficult.

But that's often not easy when I become aware of what's going on - even today I must put such stuff to one side in that box.

Sitting smugly on sofa after successful two time attempt at fixing a drip under the sink. Broke my knees and back yesterday replacing bits of a spaghetti junction plumbing nightmare only to find the bits I replaced weren't causing the leak.
Of course, it was the bits behind the bits, so start over.
Anyway, job done, wife shopping so I poured a nice glass of PG, sat down and realised it's 11.20 am!
If I pour it back in the bottle I'll only spill it so I'll just have to force it down 🙄

Ah, wine - I've got it now.

First of all I wondered why you were drinking tea from a glass and pouring back into a bottle.
Pineapple Ginger sprang to mind, but that wouldn't have much to do with time of the day.
Thought it had to be alcohol related.
Propylene Glycol seemed unlikely.

Gladdens the heart. Am grinning that much I could do with a bigger head.

So today, me and the RBL branch chairman/BIL went around all the schools, shops etc that we dropped poppy pots off at a few weeks back.
Some of the pots were not so heavy.
But when we got to one school. Lordy flippin Lordy. This school we have only just taken over. Originally it was in a neighbouring areas collection. But they have been struggling so we were asked to take it over.
I pulled up in the car and bro in law went into reception. I was sat in the car for 10 mins and I thought “what the Flippin eck is he up to”. He then came outta the school and called me in. He said “ you seriously need to look at this”. In the reception was five buckets/ boxes rammed with coins. Two boxes we struggled to lift.
The headmaster took us into another room. The walls were full of pictures of ex and current serving armed forces personnel from WW1 through to today. All relatives of the primary school kids. The kids were asked to see if any of there relatives had served. The school had put sillohettes of shoulders on the floor and asked the kids to cover them with coins. We were absolutely gobsmacked.
Bro in law is a bit bogged off with me coz I never complain that we don’t get much in some of the pots. I moan because the kids are not educated re remembrance day. This really really cheered us up no end.
We now have to decide how to properly
