Things That Gladden The Heart

Incredibly proud of my boy. There was a competition to design a tartan for Dunfermline receiving City status across the 4 high schools in the area. Over 400 entries were whittled down to a final 40 and the boy came 3rd and was invited to a civic ceremony where he was awarded a certificate by the legend that is Jim Leishman (ex Dunfermline manager and now Provost of Fife).

All of the designs had to be created with a story around how the chosen colours and weaves represented parts of Dunfermline's history. His design will also be officially made in to a tartan and entered in to the register of tartans.

This only a week after he won an "Excellence in Education" award at his school prizegiving for his S2 term just gone.

Also had an email from his art teacher telling us that his drawings are the best the teacher has ever seen at his age (13 (the boy, not the teacher!)).

What struck HID and I was that in the tartan competition, the top 3 were all from his school and Rohan was the only boy in the top 10.

He's a good lad and consistently shows his intelligence and creativity, amazing his parents almost every day!

Congratulations to him, and sounds like he has a bright future.
Is it fair to say that "He's a chip off the old block"? 😉

I have prostate problems Doc prescribed 2 tablets to help shrink it.

One said ' may increase blood pressure' the other ' may lower your blood pressure'

Had me thinking of Alice in Wonderland and Jefferson Starship white rabbit

One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small

Flippin prostates do your head in. Mines 24 MM. Which in the context of, well I am told it’s small. because it’s small it’s dense. So when calculating the size of yer prostate to your PSA it meant biopsies. Oh for another couple of Millimetres.

Good first week back for the eldest, we told her if she was good she could stay up Saturday to watch the new little mermaid and have KFC.

Got insurance through Tesco underwritten by AXA and they have been brilliant. Jet2 are unable to fly her home as she's in a full leg cast and can't bend her knee to fit in the airline seat. AXA have taken over everything, giving us a choice of flights home, transfers to the airport and again at the other end and dealing with the hotel to pay for an extra two nights in the resort. Can't fault them at all.

Also everyone at the resort and waterpark have been brilliant with checking if we need anything, getting a mobility scooter delivered and letting us stay in our lodge even though at that point it hadn't been paid for.

Once again would like to praise Tesco Bank travel insurance underwritten by AXA. I thought they might try to move us to a cheaper resort as we were all inclusive at around £500 per night but they didn't even quibble, simply phoned the resort and paid for two extra nights. Was told by the rep that they might only pay for one meal a day, normally breakfast, but they covered the lot, including drinks.

They also booked a minibus taxi from the resort to Alicante airport so Mrs Colch could lay across three seats, assistance at both airports and another minibus taxi at this end to take us from Gatwick to Stansted to collect our car.

I've never dealt with an insurance company before that has been so helpful. They even phoned me to remind me to keep any receipts so I could claim back when I got home and then phoned me on the morning of departure to see if we had any questions or needed any further help.

Definitely 10 out of 10 service. Would highly recommend.
 
Visiting my MiL today in recuperation in Buxton NHS Community Hospital with my wife, we were very moved to see nurses and other care staff sitting with very elderly, confused and worried patients - giving them their time and attention. Time and attention to ease their concerns - as they have been doing with my MiL.

My Mrs had tears in her eyes as it is the sort of nursing care that, 40yrs ago, she went into nursing to provide; that she was able to provide for many years, but that is so lost now from the majority of NHS nursing settings…and that she has seen quite absent in other NHS settings my MiL has been cared for in.

And it’s simply a matter of time…of numbers of nurses and care staff, facilities, and the funding necessary to employ them. Nothing else. It may not provide financial return and great value for money in a productivity sense, but it provides something that is invaluable…compassionate care; reassurance, and companionship.

Checked the selling price of my four year old bowls that my wife bought for me for £250.

Try the Taylor warehouse clearance sales on EBay. Taylor’s also have a physical shop, or they used to, attached to the factory in Glasgow. I got a set of Taylor Ace within 2 weeks, admittedly with a date stamp with only 9 years, not 10, at a decent discount.

Anniversary present.

She is getting a years subscription to her family history websites at roughly about the same price.
After 53 years of marriage you learn to be practical. :cool:
