is anybody still doing hi fi?
The young ones seem content with their telephones.
I moved into this house in 1996 with my hifi packed in original boxes in polystyrene protection. It remained so until earlier this year when I decided to "rebirth" it. I took it to a local "high end" audio store (you need to buzz to get in) for a lookover. The turntable is a Regar Planar bought from their , then, workshop in Chew Magna (village near Bath) that I visited to purchase. The box contained the receipt from early 80's and set up instructions.
The technician, who came from out of the back, was in some kind of nostalgic awe and assured me he probably helped construct it as he worked there back in the day. The store had a wide selection of todays RP turntables but he was simply in awe of mine.
Then, two weeks later, I took my NAD3020 amp in as my KEF speakers were only responding to one side.
A different technician came out and he was in a similar nostalgic mist when he saw the NAD in original packaging, polystyrene inserts and set up instructions.
Anyway, its now set up in a spare bedroom with the reduced remains of my once vast vinyl collection.
(Theres a Sony twin cassette deck still in the garage waiting for a rebirth!)
PS a rubber band for the turntable was £15 🫣

9 yeas ago, we did some building work and I had a spare handles for an internal door.. it was going to the bin, but since I paid for it, I put in the garage. It has been knocking around there since then.

yesterday the Mrs was moaning that the downstairs cloakroom handles have rusted and need to be replaced. When she was at work, I turned the garage upside down, found the old handle in pristine condition (minus the screws and a lever. 20 mins later, job done.

Mrs came home and saw that I actually did what she wanted. Very happy. I m happy that it cost me nought. Good day in the world

I may have to contact you in the near future. I had to replace the rubber band on my pioneer system some years ago. It was a royal PITA trying to source one. I think it was from Liverpool.
Oddly enough I was looking on Facebook market place last night at pioneer turntables as I have another deck system in the garage. Cheap as chips they are if you don’t mind traveling.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Tonto (disguised as a door) has had his knob shot off 🤭

Makes me cry every year. The WW2 vets - oh my heart. The old boy determined to get up out of his wheelchair...I was gone.

Driving the girls home from swimming we got through the town before they closed it off for the parade

I'm now waiting in my car for my golf lesson which is 11:05 so that the pro can do the siren for the golfers

Is there anything in the modern world that's actually as well accepted and respected as this? I mean closing roads in the middle of the day, standing still. People actually respect it and in modern society that's rare
