Craig Stadler (or TXL from the forum depending on who you speak to) carding the first bogey of the 2012 Masters.

Won't be able to pull myself away from the Net/TV for the next 4 days.

I always find that the Masters get the golfing fire burning bright inside me every year.

I'm slightly gutted, as we are heading back to see both sets of parents this weekend, so my "live" viewing may be limited. I'm recording all 4 days and if I don't get a chance to watch, will sit down on Monday and watch the whole thing start to finish, so if you don't see me around for the next few days, you'll know why!

If you are up in Grantham you could always pop round to watch a few hours and have a couple of beers

Will do! Might think about getting some golf in on Friday or Saturday if you're about too.

Friday morning would suit or certainly no later than 12.00. Already have a 4 ball for Saturday morning and may not be good form to ditch them seeing as I am trying to meet new members and all.

Stadler's followed it up with 4 more bogeys, 5 over through 7. I know it's nostalgic to have some of the old boys in the field but surely there has to be a basic requirement to be able to compete?

Harrington Eagled the 2nd! Great start by him!

Craig Stadler +5 thru 8 (Wonder whats going through his head right now?!).

Probably wondering what he's doing there, and since he's only played twice on the seniors tour this year and last time out completed the 3 rounds in 19 over par, I'd have to say Im inclined to agree

And you would turn down the opportunity to hack it round Augusta?

That isn't the point Murph, the question is should he have the opportunity? I know he won it 30 years ago but should that be enough to qualify you when you are hardly playing and when you do, you don't play very well?

Should there be a basic playing requirement to get you in? Just a question

^^^^
I guess it depends on whether he's keeping out a player seen to have more chance of winning than he himself does?

As I understand it he's not. It's the top 50 players and then invitees. Their are no reserves so if he didn't play nobody would replace him.

So the question then is, if there are 10 once great but currently duffers in the field to be 'dropped', would the players ranked 51-60 in rankings have a greater chance of winning over one of these guys chances of turing the clock back for 4 rounds?

got to be in it to win it :)

look at Tom Watson at the british open, nearly won it at what age? Ok he is an exceptional player but it just shows that they can still compete at the highest level to an extent
