Anyone here got an idea of how they fly compared with something like an ad333. Last night I was at the range with my new radar thingy and the distances were majorly out.

Pw @ 90yd
8i @ -115
6i @ 135

Now I know from course experience that these distances were around 15-18%, but I'm curious if there's a rule of thumb

As has been said, ranges tend to chose what fits their piece of real estate so the shorter and narrower one or those with buildings close by tend to use the more reduced ones. Colour is not a factor.

They look like the ones Canary posted, thing is to get the most of the radar jobby looks like I'm going to need to change my range! Pants!

Can't you just take it on the course for a few holes in a quiet evening? That's the best way to get the most accurate readings.

hitting the MB well then....... ;)

Im wondering what sort of difference range balls would make. I think this device uses swing speed, ball speed, loft and launch angle to calculate carry. The latter 2 are preset based on which club you pick.
I suppose the initial ball speed could differ a bit but not really sure if it would be enough to casue these issues.. I would wonder how the loft of your irons compare to the assumed lofts?

So do not account for any de-lofting of the club during the swing meaning rather inaccurate. That being the case the balls used may be the least of it.

i suppose if the lofts differ to the standard you could match them up by selecting the next club up or down.
If you have a non standard launch angle there isnt much you could do.

I use two local ranges, one uses yellow balls with "Range Ball" stamped on them, and the other range uses what looks like a mixture of lake balls. I was thinking the other day that the yellow ones don't fly as far as the normal balls, as a 6i with a normal ball will reach 150 yards with a steady swing, whereas to get 150 yards with a yellow ball, I felt that it required a much faster swing and bigger turn. Is it that they could be lighter, or more compressable, to they don't go as far as a heavier, harder ball?

Then again, the range with the yellow balls is only 250 yards long, so a long hitter could maybe put one over the top, onto the bowling club, whilst the range with the normal balls is well over 300 yards long, and I doubt anyone has ever cleared it.

Same issue here, my home course range is about 280 always into a breeze, whereas the course with the yellow balls range is about 225 max with the 17th hope of that club running the entire width of the range

I was right with my original quote

My course range uses pinnacle grade balls, my local range does not

I'll try again :)

I'm assuming you have a portable radar /launch monitor?

My suggestion was, instead of sticking it on the range where the balls are junk, why not take it out on the course with you on a quiet evening on your own?
That'll be the most accurate measurements you'll get.
