The worst song....ever

The most popular "worst songs" here are mainly the novelty records. I tried to stick to what purported to be mainstream, but were dross.

In my mind the "worst", but also somehow the best novelty song, it got to number 22 in the charts in 1978 despite no radio broadcasts or TOTP appearance,

The Winker's Song by Ivor Biggun And The Red Nosed Burglars.
so would you class Aaaah…gaaaa…doo..doo…doo as novelty or mainstream? I think they thought that they were serious…

I‘m not a fan of Hendrix, never got it, possibly never will. Just a noise to me. But is it rubbish…the worst…? Of course it’s not. Likewise much of the ‘dead cool’ guitarman stuff that many on here seem to love…eugh…no thankyou…sometimes I’d rather just have a bit of The Carpenters ?

Not the worst song ever - just the take on it.

And I saw him playing with Genesis in two big concerts!

Probably because he was never Gabriel and became a bit of an asshat post-Genesis.

Wrong wrong wrong, A Groovy Kind Of Love is his worst song by a country mile ?
Re Gabriel, genius but I never liked his voice much, always sounded flat, at least PC had a genuinely good set of pipes on him. There's a version of Dancing In The Moonlit Knight from the mid/late 70s when PC was up front thats worth checking out, he absolutely slays Gabriel vocally.

Well it is all very subjective. I thought everything Black Lace did was tongue in cheek. Whether they or anyone else sees it differently is up to them.
I was/am a bit of a Hendrix fan.
The guitar solo in Goodbye To Love was viewed by many as one of the best ever rock guitar solos in a hit record. I don't disagree with that. Very subjective though - it has to be.

On the guitar solo in GTL, apparently very unusual up to then, if not a first, to have such a solo in such a song and quite so early on in it. And the guitarist kinda implies that Richard Carpenter just told him to do something at that point…

Been listening to a bit of The Carpenters recently (just because I can and got ‘dumped’ with a stack on their LPs). Their music was scoffed at and widely derided by many at the time, coming off the back of Beatles, 60s, and the ‘summer of love’ time, and competing with psychedelia, glam and the blossoming heavier and prog scenes coming out of the UK (Sabbath, Zeppelin, Free, Deep Purple, ELP, Floyd, KingC etc)…but you know it’s superb music and production.

Have to say though that the words of many of their songs would top the best Emo misery and sadness. Add to that given Karen Carpenters (such a sad story hers) voice and the emotion she poured in, if she wanted she could bring tears to your eyes singing Jingle Bells…?
