This has been done before so apologies, I have never had one worth of mention before. Some bad ones yes, but nothing truely terrible.

Yesterday in our winter league match, one down on the 11, 401 yard par 4, playing about 370 from a forward tee.

I decided to take a hybrid for position, the fairway narrows at about 240. I hit the most impressive top I have ever witnessed. The ball travelled a grand total of 4 inches, spinning out of a 3 inch deep pitchmark !!:o:o:o

2 things in my defence, 1 in the summer it would have gone miles as I topped it really hard  & it's an elevated tee.

also I lipped out with a par putt :D but we lost the hole & went 2 down :(

fortunately we won 3 of the next 5 and won 1up.

However the pain of that shot will stay with me for a while

Make me feel better and let me know I'm not alone

Worst i've ever hit is one of numerous shanks that have been in full view of a gallery on various 1st tees!

Worst i've seen though is playing yeserday in 5 club playing our 11th hole one of the guys I was playing with made his swing and never saw the ball move but couldn't see the ball from where he'd hit it! Called us over for ruling as he'd topped it so severly he hit it 3inches straight down into the ground of the exact spot it was at when he made the swing!

I have 2 favourites. First was a thinned drive that hit the ladies tee marker and ended up 20 yards behind me in the practice nets. Other option was at the second goswick meet where I managed to embed the head of my 5 wood in the turf a good 3 inches behind the ball.

Cheers Gents, feel better already

I thinned a new ball so bad with a 6 iron it split in half.

this one is my particular favourite so far, topped so hard you split the ball, good work fella:whoo:

for future reference, as it's easy to do  what's the ruling, is it an unplayable lie ?? or just lift. clean & place

20 yards? If only! Did that on one hole where the tee markers were big cast iron pyramids with the top cut off. Came flying back, both of us ducked, only to realise afterwards that the ball had long gone time we did. Walked back, creamed a 4 wood and recorded a net 30 yards forward progress for 2.

The other nominee is also a driver. Relatively elevated tee, with a bank leading down to a pond, 1st match off. Ripped through and had that feeling of nothing, the one you get when you've absolutely pured it. Held the finish feeling smug, looking for it, when it didn't come down I looked towards the rest of the match to be told I'd necked it between my own legs, turned round just in time to see it finishing its journey into the pond....... Reload amidst much sniggering and "well intentioned advice" from my mates.

Played a family match this weekend, my brother is law and I V my mother and father in law. It was very tight but I made a special pitch on 17 to win the match. I walked to 18, ripped a driver high, hard and long. My bro followed me and swung at it like a mad man, topped it, it dropped off the tee peg and stopped by his heal.... In the summer it would have done the same thing.

2 years ago in a Medal i was off 19 at the time....I was stood on our 18th before my tee shot 2 under my handicap........I hit 5 balls OOB straight right....If i could have actually got into the field i think i would have found them all within a foot of each other i hit them that well.....;

You might hit the second the same way but to hit 3,4 and 5 exactly the same was pretty funny......Learned a big lesson that day though.....

My 2 most impressive shots I have played start with a tee shot off our 6th over the water. I hit a cracking 6 iron that hits a tree absolutely square and the ball flies back past me and OOB. Only a practice game so didn't matter.
The second was in a medal. Safely on the fairway but a long way back so I decided to hit a 3 wood. My playing partners are standing about 20 yards to the side of me and as I swing they are both looking for the ball as I follow through. I, on the other hand, know I've topped it badly so I look down to see my ball 4 yards BEHIND me. The other two are staring down the fairway asking where the hell it's gone only to look round at me and see me dying with laughter and pointing to my ball. It's still mentioned regularly now.

What about the wedge into the drain outside the pro shop.

That was a quality shot from deep in Heather - I defy anyone to better it!

Seriously, I've hit thousands down the years but I don't recall them. Huge hooks and slices, tops and thins, a couple of whiffs too but no detail.
Now ask me about the good ones and I can give you dates....!!

Played too many over the years to bother about them.

I remember catching a bunker shot a bit clean in a CC qualifier which hit the lip and came back and hit me. I obviously declared the two shot penalty which no one had seen and failed to qualify for the knock out stages by a shot.

My beer was rather bitter tasting that night.

Funny this thread should come up :o

Yesterday playing a 4BBB and we had a healthy score going when we got to the 15th. I hit a beauty of a tee shot down the right side of fairway and was in position A. I had about an 8 iron left to the green. I steps up and hits a huge shank onto clubhouse roof  there was one of them moments where time stops and everyone braces for the smash but luckily it hit brick and rolled down into the gutter eventually.

My partner missed the green so when i was walking up with him i was suitably pissed off that i had messed up a good opportunity after the tee shot. He said to me never mind mate i will chip this in to cheer you up and you guessed it! He did! Never laughed so much

Many years ago, on the first tee at Salisbury I spent a good few mins waiting to tee off, so went through a few practice swings just to show the groups behind me how good I was ( they use to stand behind the tee waiting there turn before the pro shop was there)

Anyway up steps Del, swings for England, not sure what happened but I had to ask the group behind me to move back so I could take my second shot

So yes I can beat 4 inches, I went backwards about 6-8 fetes

Not one person said a word and thankfully I hit my second down the centre of the fairway and then got a large cheer:clap: I took a bow they legged it after my ball.

2 air shots on the first tee at the best rated golf club in Nottinghamshire. Strange thing was I didn't actually feel that nervous at the time.

Plus a drive I did once where it went a decent distance but at about 87 degrees left to where I was aiming. And it clattered onto the roof of an isolated house in the middle of a field, that must have thought was in no danger of being hit. When I play the course again and stand on that tee I still can't work out how I could have hit the ball on the roof, and wouldn't be able to replicate it in a 100 tries.
