The Unfair Bandit/Cowboy Tag

I would love to be called a bandit for a while.

Accusations of banditry are usually made by the jealous or those who are lacking in the trouser department. Ignore them and play on. Your handicap will find its proper equilibrium.

But what I want to know is whether you have a job and or a family? 120 rounds in 2011? Good God!

Made by jealous people!!!!! or could it be by people who are sucked off with being beaten by people who pick and choose comps to protect their h/cap.... and then brag about 40 points here 40 points there?

I wouldn class you as a bandit your just reaping the rewards from practise and dedication...keep it you i take my hat off to you...

You're coming down so thats all you can do. You'll find that the lower you get the less you will get called bandit. You're certainly not a bandit because your handicap is dropping!

Theres stories of 1 or 2 at our place that are high handicappers that reputedly have said that they would rather nil return then get cut because they wouldnt win anything with a lower handicap. Now thats what I call banditry.

Your not a bandit - you had a good day, it happens, though if someone shot 6 under their handicap on the back nine against me in matchplay I'd be calling them a few things too lol.

Me too Marko!!

The strange thing is that I shot that score, my partner is off 17 and is a true bandit and we only won 2 and 1 so the 4 handicappers must be bandits as well!

Like others have said, just laugh it off as it mainly comes down to jelousy. You have got a official handicap and you have played in alot of comps, so there is no doubt your not a bandit and its just a fact that your getting better at the game and thats what it's all about.

Well done

To me a bandit is someone who intentionally keeps their handicap artificially high, and as such is a cheat.
I'm not happy if someone calls me a bandit, even in jest. It feels like I'm being called a cheat. I might be a knob, but I'm not a cheat.

Your 2 cuts have both been 2 shots under hc. Hardly bandit territory anyway.

The last thing I'll say is how often do the people making the accusations play and/or practice?
You've put the effort in over the last year or however long. Don't they expect you to improve?

I'm a great believer in getting out what you put in and clearly you are reaping the seeds sown by your dedication and practice. Chill and don't rise to it. Its usually said by those who've chopped it round and looking for a scapegoat for their own inabilities. Smile politely and enjoy the fruits of your labours at presentation night etc.

A bandit is someone who artificially maintains a high handicap to play in non qualifiers, honours board comps only or matchplay and win.

If you play well in enough stablefords/medals your handicap will come down, its hard to keep it artificially high. The scores are deserved as a reflection of your hard work.

A bandit is NOT someone who works hard at their game, competes in medals frequently and has dropped many shots off their handicap over a sustained period and thus cannot be accused of being one (unless in jest).

i do take it as a compliment and as long as i continue to enjoy and improve, I am very happy yeeehhaa !!

Take it in good part, its probably only craic, you cant do more than you have already done, thats a great effort to get to where you are in 2 years.

We have a large swindle at our club, if you collect money in the bar you will always get the good natured bandit insults, we have one lad who was ribbed mercilessly as a bandit because he won two weeks in a row, he was off +3 at the time, its only fun.
