My first mistake was starting to feel really confident about my game - over the last month I feel like I've hit the ball better than ever, especially with my longer irons. Then, last night I went for 9 holes in preparation for a big matchplay game on Sunday and Bill Shankly decided to make an appearance I've not changed anything about my swing, so where the hell have they come from?!?! Okay, the large majority of shots were fine, but when it happended it completely destroyed the hole I was playing.

I've not really got any spare time before my match on Sunday for drills etc., so what I'm really after is a quick fix to get me round - has anyone on here managed to cure the un-speakables with a simple change?

Help a golfer in need...!

Ah the dreaded disease, just when you think your cured you always seem to get another dose :(

The last few rounds I have played, beforehand I have went on the driving range to hit 50 balls to get warmed up. Each time I have ended up shanking about a third of them (I think my record so far is 6 in a row :D).

Now for the strange part of the story - somewhere between the driving range and the first tee I somehow manage to lose my shanky swing and play the full round without shanking. Then next time I go on the range guess what....yea thats right, it's back!!

At least im getting rid of the bad shots on the range I suppose, gotta look at the positives :D

As a quick fix for Sunday, address the ball as normal and then move back half an inch so the ball looks as if it's nearer the toe of the club.
Then, dont try and reach for it, swing normally.
The hardest bit when shanking is you expect a shank, you seize up through impact and dont swing freely.

Follow my advice and you will never ever shank....

Address the ball so that the club is past the ball and the ball is between you and the hosel and off you go....
It confused Murph but that aint hard to do.

Swing unaltered maybe move your thinking from your hands to the club head. If you are coming through the ball too fast with your hands and leaving your clubhead behind, still open..BIG problem!!

I experience what Johnboy does at the range and now cure it by using my woods first - acceleration of the head comes naturally with them - and then work my way down to p/w - by doing this my timing is OK on the irons.

If no range practise prior to a round I always go way down the grip of the irons, on the first few holes, so that I am aware I have to generate extra club head speed and this also helps.
Sounds daft but it works for me!
