The South Bucks.. Farnham Park.. I'm confused

Started reading and only when I reached an @Ethan post I realised it was 2021. Seriously miss @Ethan contributions - fine fella and very knowledgable on many things. Hope all is well with him as I know he had a difficult medical condition.🙏

Major bump, but I've just seen a petition to 'save' this course as they are planning to make it a 9-holer and build a training ground for Wycombe Wanderers on the other half!

I've signed it.

Same thing going on with Spurs at White Webbs. The Council closed the golf course a few years ago now, in anticipation of Spurs expanding their ground.

Although they won't be doing that if they continue this relegation form :ROFLMAO:

Well, historically it started life as a 9-holer, the ladies course for Stoke Poges golf club. I played there in the mid 90's once, and it was a lovely parkland course. What if they restored the original 9 holes and embraced that status? But football is a bit silly, imagine Wycombe Wanderers needing such a training ground..

There are several good reasons for Wycombe to want a large training ground:

Firsty, they can expand the youth section, become an academy to develop young players and sell them for a profit. They only need to unearth one gem every few years for this model to sustain the whole football club.

Secondly, more pragmatically, they can open the gym, hire out pitches etc to the local community and visiting teams. I used to play football at Barnet's training ground, we trained on the pitch next to the women's team. Visiting teams like Brazil used the pitches for training when they were playing at Wembley... so I shared a pitch with Ronaldinho, just not at the same time :ROFLMAO:

Wycombe ( my team) already have a sizable training ground ( 2 pitches gym , indoor facilities etc about 2 miles from their stadium close to Booker Airfield.

It is surrounded by fields , is close to the M40 and looks as if it could easily be expanded.

Lord knows why they want to look at taking over half a golf course 13 miles away.

Now if Slough Town were looking for a new training facility, it might make sense.

I suspect planning permission is a major problem with Marlow Rd.....in the middle of nowhere means Green Belt..
P,us that junction with Clay Lane would need to be upgraded
Upgrading Marlow Rd would increase traffic on an already busyish junction.

Hi, had a medical condition some years ago, but totally sorted out.

Gave up membership at Bearwood Lakes, owner interested in doing a mini-Wentworth, going up market starting with subs and ditching members not in the inner circle. Not interested in the experience for the average member, so like a number of others left and not planning to pay an entrance sub somewhere else, more or less gave up golf.

Great to hear from you Sir…and such good news on the health side 👍

Pity the route that Bearwood Lakes has gone down…perhaps not that unexpected though from what you were saying…that said I thoroughly enjoyed my knock with you back then. Always welcome at my place just down the road.
