Truly disgusting. What is it with folk that think they can vandalise historic monuments. Do they want there 15 minutes of infamy.

The tree is indeed 'healthy' (poor word, but it's good enough) - and it's a sycamore, so it will indeed sprout new shoots from the stump that's left behind. But it will still be a generation before there's anything of note, or anything that's approximate to the landscape feature it used to be. The lad may well have been angry about something, but he's still a git!

Maybe just get the forum a week’s worth of sabbatical and we all have a say.
Whats the point of cutting down a tree. It reminds me of the Simpson’s episode where Bart cut off the head of the Jebediah Springfield statue to impress the bullies who then turned on him. There is nothing in it for anyone.
