i noticed durring play back that i straighten my right leg at the top of my back swing. now, i know i shouldn't but i strike the ball quite well. i've tried for 3 sessions at the range to keep some flex in the right leg but it dramaticly ruins my swing and i can't hit the ball for toffie.

is there anyone else out there that straightens the right leg or is it a habbit to break for future benefit

It's one of the big no-nos in golf, it can lead to a reverse pivot and many other errors.

I'm no expert but if I were you I'd try and get rid of it, even if it means paying for a lesson to focus just on that.

Straightening the right leg is a move of the "stack and tilt" swing which is advocated by a few on here.

I'm sure someone a lot more knowledgeable than me will be along in a minute. :D

Not a great position to get into but I'm sure Bob et al will explain in more detailthe pitfalls. I've had the problem before and weight transfer, i.e. reverse pivot as mentioned was the main outcome

It's a great position to be in for the stack and tilt swing to ensure the right hip gets into a higher position than the left hip during the backswing. Not sure if it is the right thing for your partcular swing.
You will only get into a reverse pivot if the body stops moving forward towards the target in the downswing.

I recently got rid of my straightened back leg, worked a treat for improving my ball striking.

I'd see a pro and work it out of your swing if you choose you don't want it in there. There's plenty of good golfers out there that have a straight back leg so it depends on how you want to swing and if you want a straight back leg or not.
