The Open - Your best memories

Brian Watts bunker shot on the last at Birkdale(?) in '98(?) to take it to a play-off with O'Meara. Talk about an impossible shot.

2nd Round

Tom Watson's birdie putts on 16 & 18
enhanced by his playing partners' reactions to them

If I may second that and add also,

To see the start of a flourishing career and the twilight of great great career.....pure theatre!

Golfmmad.

Yeah, Seve's birdie putt and celebration on the last at St Andrews will always stay in the memory. He and Watson, my two favourite golfers of all time, made for a brilliant finale as I wanted both to win.

My other great memory was from 2005 at St Andrews. In the pub with all my pals watching Tiger finish off the 17th safely. I knew my bet had come in when he did that and it was beers all round.... as I won nearly 5K.

J_F In the picture below there was another taken about 10 seconds later and the look on the fans faces was pure extacy, especially the wee fella in the wheelchair. If anybody had the one I am talking about I would love to see it again.

Constantino Rocca's chip coming back to him in the Valley OF Sin at the 18th at St Andrews and then draining the second attempt to earn a play off with John Daly.

I marshalled at St Andrews that year and a policeman and myself got Constantino's wife through the crowd so she could see his attempts - she gave us both a hug and thanked us after the second one went in - Got sent out with the players for the play off and was sitting in the middle of the fairway directly behind John Daly when he holed his monster putt at the second play off hole - could see it was in when it was halfway to the hole - chill down the spine stuff.

One of my favourite memories was seeing Tiger in floods of tears on the 18th green at Hoylake in 2006, his first major win since his dad died.

It was a very very emotional moment!

Tiger went straight to Steve Williams as his putt went in and burst into tears, Steve tried to pull away a couple of times but Tiger wouldnt let him.

Probably the first time Tiger has appeared human to everyone...

Besides Harringtons win i plump for "the Duel in the Sun" between Watson and Nicklaus a Turnberry in 1977.
Nicklaus shoots 65,66 over the weekend and loses to Watsons 65, 65--what a shootout.
