The Open - who's going?

Should get to Troon by 11 am Wednesday to catch some of the practice sessions.

Might see the end bit of Rory, Howeller & Oleson who are out at 7am, but will definitely be watching some of Sergio, Luke & Rafa CB who are off at 8.30,Bubba & Reed tee off at 11, then Jiminez & Cheeseburger at 11.30. at 2pm its Monty, Kaymer, Fitz & Sully so that will be worth seeing.

Going to look round the tented village then as Thursday I intend to divide my time between scoffing myself stupid in the GM hospitality area and out on the course, so I can burn some calories for the return hospitality visit :)

Intend to be there for the opening shots on Thursday, but will need to leave about 7pm to catch my flight back to reality :(

I'm hoping to be up there by 4pm tomorrow and Radbourne2010 is catching a lift up with me.

Going to see if we can blag our way in for the remnants of the practice day - don't fancy paying 50quid for a few hours entry, as the tickets section on the open.com is for the full day. Would quite like to follow Sulli and Chris Wood for a couple of holes and the tented village/town

Definately looking forward to the hospitality on Thursday, but imagine i will mainly be in there for a damn good feed and then roaming around to burn it all off - and i can't touch the drink as i've got to drive later on in the day

I'm not sure about being there for the opening shot, as our hotel is 40mins away but want to be there early, and i'm planning on leaving at the end of play.

Not looking forward to the 350 mile drive up tomorrow and then the 220 mile drive to York straight after play. I really wanted to stay and see Friday as well, but work has got in the way :(

Im around Thu for the GM meet :) debating a 5am wake up from my Glasgow hotel on the Thursday morning to watch the opening tee times especially as its luke Donald out first.

do you think we will get lucky with the weather on Thursday ? or shall I pack my waterproofs :(edit: just seen the Royal Troon website looks dry but a bit windy and cold (feels like it will be around 10 degrees). I am planning to get there for 1st tee time but unsure if bus from train station runs that early. is it quite easy to walk form the station?

I saw the weather too - i'm still packing mine just in case! It looks too good to be true for Scottish weather!

Thurs is the best day of the week. Friday is a washout, no doubt as myself, StuartC, 2Blue & Farneyman are playing in Prestwick that morning.
Would love to see Monty & Donald tee-off at 6.35 but depends on my friendly driver & traffic from East Kilbride on Thurs.
For the record, I've packed shorts, full waterproofs (2 pair thereof) & multiple golf gear for the 4 days I'm up there. Should be a great gig

Railway to course is about a mile, easy walk.
I would imagine the buses will be running for staff/press etc.
They leave on the inbound Glasgow [north] side of the station.

I've brought 2 lots of waterproofs (long and short sleeve) plus 3 pairs of shoes 😁
In my defence I've been in Scotland since yesterday and won't be home until Friday so I needed to be ready for anything.

Early start for me tomorrow, excitement is building. Aiming to leave by 5am so I can be walking around the course by 8am and then onwards to hospitality.

Throwing a tent and sleeping bag in the car in case I don't fancy the drive home later in the day. Anyone know a friendly farmer nearby? :)

Have you checked the open website? they have free tents available at a campsite near the course. Not sure if that would be ok for you or not?

If you are under 25 you can get free camping near the course subject to numbers - http://www.theopen.com/Spectators/Camping . Otherwise you can wild camp if you want, many landowners will put up signs etc saying no camping but by law (in Scotland) they cant stop you unless you are in someones garden, beside buildings, in a large group, staying more than 3 nights, going against a local byelaw, causing damage to crops or worrying sheep :mmm:etc.

Thanks, I saw the announcement about that a few months ago but unfortunately despite my youthful looks I am 15 years too old.

I think it's a great experiment to offer the camping but the age limit seems bizarre.

Anyone who has been to watch the practice days comment if there are many freebies on offer by the sponsors in the spectator village and any comps worth entering ?
