Morning all,

I was just wondering if anyone who is going (or has been previously) to The Open in Hoylake may be able to comment on the travel / parking arrangements?

I am going on the practise days, so will be viewing the main event from the comfort of my home but can anyone recommend anywhere locally to park? I am only in Liverpool, so could get the train at a push but It's been about 20 years since I was last on public transport so would rather go under my own steam!

What time is best to get there / leave? I assume missing rush hour traffic would help a bit too.

Any comments / advise appreciated.

Where about in Liverpool are you, Stegsie?

If south end leave your car at south parkway and get the trains, much easier.

Not sure if its the same on practise days but matchday parking is £15 .... That plus the £75 ticket has put me off a little. Id rather spend that sort of coin playing a top notch course rather than watching.

I was looking this morning, recommendations seem to be a train from Lime Street (running every 10 mins) then a 5 minute walk from the station.

If you drive its park and ride, so the train might be best.

I am still thinking of going on Friday and would take the train (cost permitting).

I will be on the 0539 train from blackpool north on Friday!

Change at preston and ormskirk to get into liverpool 0727!

Train to hoylake!

Can't do a full day at the golf without a few beers! Therefore no driving for me!!!

Definitely train from Liverpool, drops you off 2 minutes from the course. Park and ride is quite a way away, no chance of picking up a parking spot on the side roads, everything is coned off within a 4 miles radius

Gosh that is a long trek! We decided to get a cheap premier inn (£29) the night before rather than get all those trains. However we will be on the 6amish train form Liverpool to the course.

oh another thing was at the ladies Open yesterday and the marshals etc were pretty relaxed about people taking photo's. Some even had those big SLR things in the crowd. Doubt they will be so relaxed this week mind!

drive to the designated parking 'fields' then they bus you to the course, stress and hassle free.

You've thrown a spanner in the works now - That's what I was going to do! Was convinced to get the train instead .... Decisions, Decisions!

key for me is I have my car there so I dont rely on train timetables and sharing a packed hot train with people who don't bathe:eek:

you can also pack your car with food/drink as the Open 'stall's are a huge rip off, plus pack your car for sunny/wet/cold weather clothes that you couldnt carry with you on the Calcutta express

no brainer................unless you want to drink lots of alcohol, but a Major golf tournament isnt the place to be doing that anyway.

Always used park and ride when I've been to The Open. It certainly makes getting home at the end of the day a lot easier than waiting for an overcrowded train and hoping you get on this one :)

Park and ride works well but charges are a bit of a rip off.

Exactly my thoughts.

Do you know where the Park & Ride(s) are for Hoylake?

Hi I went to watch practice day at hoylake yesterday. We drove and park and ride bus worked brilliant as had on previous visits to opens. BUT if anyone going on comp days I wonder if the roads around hoylake village can cope with heavy traffic. Only single lane and in parts country lanes. I'd expect delays at the weekend for sure.
That said the course looked fantastic ruff was up, followed tiger who played well. What ever you decide hope you have a great day.
Took my 9 year old son to his first open he loved it.

Speak for yourself!!;)

Not lots and lots but enough not to have to drive!!!!!

Was that LB following Paula creamer?.... ;)

I followed he for about 10 holes, got within 3 yards when she drove through the par 5 in two.

Overall, she couldn't take her eyes off me, quite unnerving at times.

Lovely tennis players legs, she has. Great "leany" swing, just no putts dropped for her.
