I live 37 miles south of(which according to google maps is a one hour drive) Muirfield GC, 2013 Open venue.
Has anyone any experience of letting their home for Open Week and is there a reputable letting company that specialises in this type of thing and would sort out the booking etc for a fair percentage?

Am I too far away at an hour?
What kind of rental could you get from some wealthy Yanks/Japs etc?
Have a 3/4 bedroom detached house with parking.

Just an thought to make a few easy quid this year.

Thanks,

I think many that rent houses for the golf would like to be in walking distance of the course. Plus they probably would like to be near the night life atmosphere that surrounds The Open.

Unless your property has a helicopter pad?

Night Life:smirk: - have you been to Gullane, it's only a wee toon with limited beds?

Muirfield is a good 40 minutes from Edinburgh, think that's where the nightlife is.:smirk:

If you want to make good money you have to use the appointed agents.
Standards are very high re houses inc bedding, internet access and HD TV.
It generally costs a lot to upgrade your house to reach their standard with no guarantee that the house will be let.
My brother let his house [which borders the 1st hole at Muirfield] to the Swedish Golf federation last Open and swore he would not do it again.
A few of my friends tried to let there houses for the Turnberry Open outside of the letting agency but had no takers. No surprise to me as they were asking silly money.

I think you are miles too far away, Edinburgh will suck up most of the lettings.
Sorry but I would forget it.

Sorry, did not imply you had not!!
I have a friend who has a 'top end' holiday home [£1000 pw -previously used by Royalty] and the letting agency were a bit sniffy with her.
I think you can contact the Agency through the R&A Open website. See what they say.

The over 60's party at The Mallard was a bit racey from what I have heard.

40 mins from Edinburgh........are you a hearse driver by any chance.

I'm talking about from the middle of Edinburgh, not the bypass. Google maps has 38 minutes so if you take into consideration the extra volume of traffic it'll be 40+

Hi I am new to this but my sister renter her house to a yank last year in Deal Kent for the Open in Sandwich. I think she got around £4000 for a fortnight. She obviously had to move out but they left it clean and tidy. They usually have drivers that collect them anyway so distance isn't essential.Hope it helpsKreff
