I live within 2 miles of Royal Birkdale. The course that is hosting the 2008 British Open. Does anyone have any ideas on how inform as many people as possible that I am letting my house out for the 10 day period. I have been told I am asking for a very reasonable amount but most people in a position to secure a booking on my behalf, obviously, want money up front. It is a well appointed, recently refurbished Victorian house with 4 double rooms and 1 single, off-road parking for many cars, internet access, SKY, Etc, Etc. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

If you want to let independently to avoid fees then I would suggest placing an ad in Golf Monthly magazine,
I believe their circulation is around 80,000 per month- that's a lot of potential enquiries!

The following is on the Open Championship website, looks like an agent for what you're offering -

If you want to let out your house, get an agent (specialist) to find you someone prepared to pay full whack (foreign visitor?). It's a win/win, if you don't want to part with money up front find someone prepared to do it without a fee until the deal is done. OR put an ad in a golf mag, either way you'll make a killing - "speculate to accumulate".

I take it you're going to hang around on the forum and didn't just sign up hoping for a speculative booking???? You might have to post on every golf forum ever to get a bite...phone up some professionals.
