The course is exactly the same course if you make the easy par 5 12th a par 4, then English shoots -9 and the rest -8 or worse and the cut +3, Only Scottie is then an outlier at -13 as his putter was red hot shooting 8 under what he should have made from the positions he was on the greensI think -7 or -8 par as the winning score is a pretty good winning score
With nearly half of the field who make the cut still being over par![]()
NoIs Gotterup currently a better golfer than Scheffler?
Over the past couple of tournaments he has on average finished higher.
He has shot lower and his most recent round was lower.
I have to ask - why did you not fancy him to do it?? Everything we've seen from him in the last couple of years suggested he would coast it. I don't think anyone else had any doubt.Well I did get it wrong, well done Scottie,a great performance leading from the front.
Good to see some great golf, birdies and eagles always exciting to watch.
Scheffler didn't give the chasing group a chance with his almost complete game.
I'd agree with this, I think it's probably because Scottie won at such a canter, that people can look to blame the course set up, end of the day it was the same for everyone but Scottie is in a league of his own.Even though there was deep rough, bushes, gorse and jungle The Open was a far better tournament and spectacle than the US Open.
R&A got it right......
I thought he won it on the greens tbh, his putting was immense.
You might want to have a word with BBC sport. Their bulletin, BBC breakfast, led with McIlroy, not Scheffler, ended the golf section with an interview with McIlroy. Fitzpatrick was not even mentioned.Which is why many aren’t also talking about him![]()

Pretty much the same the day before. Sadly, the BBC joined the obsession this weekend. They wrote their story before the action.
We are talking about the Rory McIlroy, possibly the biggest draw in golf right now from a marketing perspective, who has just played the Open at his home country. A venue in which he had a much famed breakdown last time The Open was there? You might want to have a word with BBC sport. Should journalists not see past some of that and also cover the sport itself. McIlroy was definitely part of the story, but the Brits finishing ahead of him, on multiple days and in contention, should have been part of that story as well. They were largely ignored. This isn't a McIlroy bash, it's disappointment of the journalism ignoring other players. We are talking about the Rory McIlroy, possibly the biggest draw in golf right now from a marketing perspective, who has just played the Open at his home country. And people wonder why the media dare mention him, and ask why they don't talk about Matt Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick being one of the dullest players in golf. Not many articles on Harris English either.
Are people really puzzled why there is some talk on McIlroy?
Just looked at BBC golf on phone. Of the top articles, there seems to be one on McIlroy, all the rest about Scheffler. Doesn't seem unusual
But, I bet nobody really cares about Matt Fitzpatrick, a player that ultimately was never in contention, just like the rest of the field. Had he put Scheffler under pressure over the weekend, then I'm sure he would have got a big mention. But he didn't. So, I'm sure he'll have some stories written about him in the local press in Sheffield, but most of the rest of the UK won't be bothered. What is there to be said about matt Fitzpatrick? That he had a decent weekend and was nowhere near winning a major?Should journalists not see past some of that and also cover the sport itself. At other times in the weekend, I did say multiple days, I believe Hatton was also up there and ahead. But, I bet nobody really cares about Matt Fitzpatrick, a player that ultimately was never in contention, just like the rest of the field. Also, when you say the Brits finishing ahead of him, I assume you meant Brits as a singular?
I can't go back in time to see what the BBC had on their site on Thursday night, Friday morning. But, from memory, there was a hell of a lot of talk about Matt Fitzpatrick on Friday, after an excellent first dayAt other times in the weekend, I did say multiple days, I believe Hatton was also up there and ahead.
