The Open 2015

Great photo - The countdown on my Open app is now at 30 days! Pictures like that and flicking through this months GM are almost making me forget the small matter of the US open this week, exciting time of year!

Rory's to lose apparently...

Hi. My 1st post . Me and a pal are coming to the Open on the thurs and Fri this year.. Our 1st time ever to St Andrews and was just wondering if anyone has any tips on following groups around...is it really as difficult as people are saying?
We are both massive Brooks Koepka fans and would love to walk the 18 with him if possible (as long as he doesn't get Rory or tiger in his 3 ball)..but after reading a few things some people are saying that nigh on impossible around there...doing a bit of research too is plotting up in a grandstand somewhere near the 8th/10th a good idea to get a decent view of a few holes..Many thanks..I can't sleep I'm so excited

If you following a smaller group then it's fine for watching if you want to follow the whole round. The only issue I have with St Andrews is if you spot another group you want to follow say on the back nine and your on the front, it can be a hassle to get there. I go to the dunhill most years and the marshals take their time letting folk through the crossing areas so by time you catch up you've missed a few holes.

As to sitting in a stand, personally I'm not a huge fan of that. Yeah you get to see a lot of groups come through but you have no sense for how the round develops and all the different shots they play.

Looking forward to this. I've got a ticket for the Saturday (here's hoping Tiger can keep it together for two days :D)

Will be the first time at an event, so not sure what to expect, I would imagine I will always be at the furthest possible point from any magic.

Can imagine the atmosphere is going to be fantastic.

I went with my old man back in 2010. Personally I found the course very walkable and reasonably easy to follow groups around. If you are planning to view a group just be mindful that if you want to see them tee off on one hole be prepared to miss them on the green to get ahead of the crowd. I went to Royal St Georges the following year and that was an awful spectator course.

The best viewing point in my view was either 17th somewhere by the green or the other side of the course I enjoyed standing by the 12th tee and being able to see irons struck in to the 11th although don't get to see how close they finish.

I'm a bit disappointed not to have been able to get any nice new pictures, I've been crunching at work and it's wiped my spare time out, but the new grandstand behind the 18th green is absolutely EPIC. The view around the 1st and 18th is an incredible sight; the stands, the R&A, Links Trust and Morris buildings, all the clubhouses and whatnot up Links road all form a huge theatre of golf.

The course is looking amazing, unfortunately too good in some ways, as the rain that's been lacking in the early part of the year finally arrived with a lot of warmth and sunshine in tow. A couple of weeks ago it was lacking growth, burning off and browning but now there's a very lush green lustre to it. The ground still feels properly firm so I don't think there's any fear of target golf, in fact some of the rough looks really nasty the way it's grown up in the last week - at last - but I think those that are hoping for stupidly fast and hard running golf may not get their wish.

I'm so excited now, I've got all of next week off to indulge in it 100%. :D

Have I mentioned how hyped I am lately?

The crowds are getting bigger every day and the atmosphere is building. I wish they'd just get on with it now. :D
