It's major season again at last. I'm enthused by the Masters kicking off this week but for me The Open is where the most of my excitement gets focussed. The Open has always been the greatest event for me, I think Seve winning in St Andrews in 1984 is my earliest golfing memory, and I've avidly watched it on the TV every year since. Even though for a good 15 years I never touched a golf club I'd always be watching that one weekend in July.

Anyway, without rambling about my very roundabout love affair with golf, I just felt compelled to post this because it was such a glorious day here yesterday and the build for the championship is well under way.

I've got my tickets. Bring it on. :)

Not sure St Andrews is necessarily the best Open venue by a long way but it's always great to see it there at the home of golf. I'm not sure it has the defences aside from mother nature to cope with the way the pros hit it these days

I agree, it's also a really poor course to spectate at. Wouldn't be a regular open venue if it wasn't for the history imho
yep, been once to an Open there- never again. You are so far away from the players and if you spot a favourite going up an opposite fairway it could take you an age to cross over and catch up.

I have got grandstand tickets overlooking the 17th green on the Thursday. Should get a good view of the 18th and 1st. Can't wait.

yes I've used that stand, the one across the road now but you are correct, decent views of 17th shots to the green and 18th tee shots

Was there in 2010 - loved it , you can feel the magic of the place whilst watching and just appreciate the history and see every bump and hollow of the course.

Can't wait to play it one day

Got this panorama yesterday morning. It's impossible to avoid the increasing buzz of The Open building up in town now. Shops are filling with tat and merchandise, more stands going up around the course and we're heading into a period of more frequent course closures for the facilities build. 10 weeks to go...
