The machines are taking over

Nipped down the range yesterday for a spot of practice and had the range to myself. Nobody there. Peace and quiet. Lovely.
Got some balls from balls from the ball machine and spent a very pleasant 45 mins
Then popped into Tesco on the way home to get a few bits and pieces.
Self scan till as I only had a few items and the other tills were busy.
Finally, got some petrol on the way out.....pay at the pump.
I got home and realised I'd been out for about an hour and a half and hadn't spoken to anyone.
Just 3 machines that took my money/card.

Is it as good thing?

At least I can still shout at the telly

Given the standard of conversation from the oiks at my local supermarket I suspect that you're better off talking to a machine.

I hate those self service tills with a passion!

I went to b&q for a new saw and as I approached the till, the young assistant was standing in front of the till directing people to them self service tills. I said to her I don't like using them things and I wanted her to serve me, she wasn't very happy like.

I have no problem with machines. If I am in a supermarket I tend to not to be in the best of moods and want in and out as quickly as possible and really do not want to have idle chit chat at a checkout. I know the staff are only being friendly but the ones at my store seem to want to tell me their life story when I am at the till. Happy to scan my stuff and get out. Same in a petrol station. I used to always go into the kiosk to buy cigarettes when I smoked so now i pay at the pump. Also stops be buying chocolate, pasties etc.

The problem with these self service Tesco type checkouts is that when you buy a CD, DVD etc it comes in an anti-theft case and the assistant has to come along and take it out. Same with clothes and the security pin so in essence it isn't self service at all.

Biggest problem is the people that don't understand how they work and just stand there scanning and scanning without putting the item down beyond the reader...
And the people that think it's quicker to self serve a full trolley by themselves....

I would like to use the pay at the pump option, as it is convenient. But it is limited to about £60 worth. This just about wets the bottom of the tank. So I have to pay indoors. Rubbish.

Ours used to be £60 I think but are now £95
Might be worth checking
