The Longest Day Report

Well done guys that is really some effort, I to could be interested in getting involved next year.

I do however think my golf would have to be of a much better standard than it is now though otherwise would need a second bag just for balls!!!

I've go to say HTL played 4 iron off every par 4 and 5 and hit each one about 200 yards (we did measure one at 224) and he simply never missed a fairway. If he was keeping SS2 stats I'd have had his fairways hit around 70% on both his last two rounds. It was great to watch and if he had putted better he would have had bucketloads of points. It did help chipping in and holing out for 4 point holes too but even so he played great.

I was ok in patches but struggled over the last nine (combination of feeling rough healthwise and my swing getting looser as I got more tired).

If I do another one it would be good to get a proper team of 4 involved so we could raise as much money as possible and maybe stand a chance of getting to the grand final. I think from an organisational perspective and given the 4.20 start time it would probably need to be a fairly localised side but I would say if its given nay of you around the UK and Ireland an urge to take this challenge up its a great cause and it would be fun to have a GM mini league on the day.

Fantastic effort - Homer can you post that donating link again?
Happy to support your cause.

Have just been doing a charity event myself - Girls in Gear

Not asking for money, but thought you might like to see one of my less confident moments. Trust me, the fire engine was easier than the fork lift truck.

Congrats to the pair of you, shame about Steve not turning up though.

Well done Hywel and Martin - good guys, great cause, hug virtual pat on back.

P.S. HTL is right, extra man points for Homer for carrying that bag round the whole day.

The youth of today - no staying power. He had a tiny pencil bag and a 1/2 set for the first 36 and an electric trolley for the last two rounds. Real men carry!!!!!

Please don't respond to that last comment - I'm not going to be responsible for the trolley v carrying debate starting again

Sounds like you had a great day there, and well done to both of you. Averaging 35 points per round is pretty damn impressive I'd say.

Would definitely be interested in giving this a go one day, but do you reckon it needs to be pairs, as it sounds like you only just got done really? A 3-ball might not make it. A 4-ball almost definitely wouldn't.

A 4 ball can get it done especially as it is designed as a 4 ball event (we were unlucky with drop outs so ended as a 2). Downshire were brilliant at getting the groups ahead to step aside and let us play through and so if we did it again we'd look at going back there.

I might be tempted to repeat it next year but its too soon to say.

Homer, HTL
sorry for slow reply but been away on hols for a few days
