The EFL Thread

We’ve done our best to make the play off spots something we can just look at with a loss to Stevenage today who leap frog us into last play off place and they have a game in hand.

I was one of 7,500 Boro fans that travelled to Blackburn yesterday. Phenomenal support but a less than ideal result. We are quickly becoming master at pointless possession. A lack of a decent centre forward feels like it could cost us.

I have resigned myself to the fact the Rotherham will be playing in League 2 next season. Watched the Port Vale match last night and, whilst we showed plenty of effort and commitment, we missed the cutting edge in front of goal. Hit a couple of close range headers straight at the keeper and have no-one on the bench to bring on up front who could change the fortunes. Only forward is a teenager who has been recalled from loan at a non league team. We have only scored one goal since the beginning of March so scoring goals is something that has haunted us for a while. We have 6 games left and we will need to win them all as we are 11 points form safety - even the 2 games in hand don't look like helping. :(

Looks like you've bottled it big time. I watched you against Millwall and it was very good until the final third. Really good football but just no end product. No win in 5 isn't what you want at this point in the season.

Feel your pain as we've bottled even making the play offs with two 96th min goals over Easter and getting done by Doncaster today. Pathetic.

Today was beyond awful. Portsmouth were toothless but so were the Boro. The strikers haven’t fired all season, a symptom masked by goals coming from midfield. Unfortunately, the two best midfielders that have been scoring are out injured for a couple of weeks at least and it looks like they’ll both miss at least the next two weeks too.

One more win might guarantee a play-off place but they’ve got Wrexham, who are currently 7th, on the last day of the season. Definitely squeaky bum time.

I also watched you at Swansea in the secomd half and I really think you're the best footballing side in that league. It must be very frustrating to draw or lose so many games you dominate..

You'll get the play offs for sure but I think Southampton look the team to beat at the moment. I reckon Wrexham pip 6th from Hull.

We've made things hard work over the last month but a good win over Bolton today should settle any nerves and hopefully see us officially promoted over the next 10/11 days

Well done to Lincoln - phenomenal run

After seeing Lincoln win promotion at our gaff I really don't want it to happen again at the next home game 😅 Can you get it done midweek if possible?

You and me both. I’ve resigned myself to the fact we’ve blown our chances and it’s happened to many times that we’ve either not killed a game off or just conceded so late in many games by conceding to much possession in our own third and inviting pressure. 😔

Yeah we've thrown away so many points due to late goals it's unreal. We're not a great team let's be honest but we should be getting into the play offs based on the squad quality.

Rumours of a bust up in the dressing room with the captain storming out and getting the train back home with another player. The manager wanted them in on Sunday and the players told him to go whistle. He's lost the dressing room, the fanbase wants him gone and at this point I feel he's got to go. It's a shame as since he's come in we're 4th in the table over 25 odd games, so he's done a decent job. When the fans don't like a manager there's no coming back though....

I hadn’t heard of the bust up, but then I’ve been out of the loop for few days with other bits going on. If that’s true then we may as well look for his replacement now, if the team don’t him they’re not going to fully buy into his methods.

I said when we got him I wasn’t overly keen on his appointment, and as much as I’ve loved seeing us slowly move up and now ultimately fell short, I can’t help but wonder wait his tactics that caused the upturn in form or simply the decent players we have combined with our opponents not being that great. We certainly don’t play good football under him, overly cautious, don’t kill games off, sit and defend our ow box for so long in games we inevitably concede.

Perhaps time to move forward start fresh and attack the season next year on the right foot.

After that performance and result any bust up is good to be honest. Stuff like that goes on a lot more than people realise!

I think the upturn was down to a mix of getting rid of a poor manager in Hunt, the league being weak and our squad quality. We've been lucky in a few games, unlucky in others but the football hasn't been great. It's understandable as we've had major injuries issues and losing Marriott was a hammer blow. He just doesn't come over as likeable and his post match interviews are all about blaming the pitch, weather etc. Sometimes it's valid but at this level, in a mainly northern based league the pitches and weather will still be bad next season! He doesn't seem to accept any blame for anything and that's got the fans on his back. All he had to do was be upfront in the post match comments because you can't kid matchgoing fans.

On the plus side, good news the owners are putting in £5m to invest in the stadium. New fanzone, safe standing, new toilets, new digital advertising boards, new lighhting and improvements to the sound system and WiFi. I think the dark side of the moon has better Wifi signal than the stadium at the moment 😅

Another 2 points given away, missed a few chances and goalkeeper made a mistake that gave them the equaliser.

Luckily Oxford lost so still 6npts clear of them
