Today i found myself far from home with money burning a hole in my pocket and my clubs in the boot so off i went to the nearest driving range/course. Spoke to one of the pros and explained that i might be after a new driver and could any improvement be found over my 5 year old cobra? `Of course`, he replied, the tech and shafts are miles ahead now! He asked if i hit it hard or soft then gave me stiff shafts rbz , anser and a titleist to try. After 10 balls with each i decided none were an improvement. The pro came to see me at this point and oohed and ahhed at the performance of the new clubs then i hit my own and he conceded there was no improvement, mine flew nicely too. So i will be sticking with my old and out of date driver! Companies are so greedy they package the same thing year on year. Don't fall for it!
Off to treat the family to a meal with my newly spare cash!

Good Man
i only buy clubs that improve my game its the way it should be

Good on you, I won't be changing anytime soon unless a club can seriously improve an area of my game but ill always choose lessons other than a new club in order to find a quick fix.

The problem I do have though is its looking very much like I now need stiff shafts after building a decent swing through lessons. I've replaced my driver shaft and I'm going to sort my Rescue shaft but the irons are going quite nice so no panic change there. A lot of people in my situation would have been out and bought a whole new set of stiff shafted clubs by now.

I did exactly the same last week, I tried the Anser, Rbz and a few others. I'd been using an old titleist 907 that I'd gone back to after buying a 910.
Nothing really stood out, the Rbz was long but wild and the Stock stiff Anser had a ballooning flight.

I did end up buying a second hand Cleveland TL 310 for £65, probably not what the owners of the range had in mind for me when I said I was maybe looking for something new. But it was by far the best performing club I tried.

I admire your strength! I would have bought one and kept it as a spare.... ;) ;) ;)

I have been keen to try most releases out of idle curiosity and to be honest aside from the G20 there hasn't been a drive that has got me off the edge of my seat. That said the new 2013 releases so far has changed all that and I am keen to try the TM offerings (I can see past the decals) and the new G25. It still has to outperform the Burner I have to get a berth in the bag. Even though I have the funds to buy I'm not parting with any cash if I am not happy C/F or not

I understand what your saying. My old G5 is back in the bag and its as good and as long as anything else i've hit !!! I seriously think its the best driver Ping have made.

I too still have the Ping G2 superb driver and dirt cheap now, distance isnt as good as my newer drivers JPX800 and Cobra AMP

I think its a case of if it works stick with it. For most of use the difference between hitting a 6 iron or 5 iron is not much except trying to put a good swing on it.

This year i have had my best driving year ever but rather stupidly took up the offer of a friends R11 for £50 after he was seduced by an RBZ. 2 rounds later the Mizuno JPX800 is bag in the bag as i had 2 horrendous rounds and felt that anymore and i would be back to my nervous best with the driver in my hands. A place i had not been in all year.

Probably on me own here, but I'm looking forward to trying the Nike Covert driver!

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't you have a very expensive shaft upgrade in a driver fitted by precision golf?
If so, what if anything has gone wrong with that?

Or was it someone else and I am in fact as stupid as I look?

My driver is 6 years old and although i've tried many of the newer models over the last 18 months,i shall be keeping my old driver in the bag.Biggest problem from my own point of view is the sheer size of most of todays drivers, even my own driver at 425cc looks like a tortoise on a stick.
I was offered my friends D3 with aftermarket Voodoo shaft, but even though i hit it reasonably well and that he was practically giving it away,i failed to be seduced by it.

Currently have a TM burner 10.5 (not the superfast) but have a Mizuno MP 600 on the way, fingers crossed that I can hit it :mmm:
