Most of you will know my views on CSS but I've just developed a soft spot for it.

I had to work at 330 yesterday morning so took advantage of an early finish to play in the midweek medal with Sundance and a couple of other members. It was hot, really hot with no wind to speak of and I was hoping to get a cut down to single figures.

As it turned out I couldn't really find any rhythm, no-one could, the heat seemed to be sapping energy from everyone but I managed to reach the turn in 6 over thanks largely to a lost ball and a treble bogey on 7.

A par on 10 and another lost ball on 11 followed by a double on 12 and a bogey on 14 saw my handicap used up by the 15th tee.

To be fair my short game was keeping in with a chance of the buffer zone and I somehow found myself with a 12 footer on the last for a birdie and a 79. The birdie grazed the cup on the right edge and I signed for a nett 70 and another buffer finish - or so I thought.

Sitting in traffic on the M25 this afternoon I get a text from Sundance. It turns out that not only was my 70 good enough to win division 1, but CSS had gone up to 72, 2 over SSS, and my handicap has dropped the 0.4 I needed to become the forums latest single figure golfer.

I'm absolutely over the moon, I always told you CSS was a good thing :D

The only 'bad' thing about the conditions yesterday (if you can call it bad) was the heat. Everything else seemed perfect for good scoring yet only 1 player from 2 divisions, about 40 people, managed to beat their handicap. As we always say, golf is a funny ol' game. Well played Hawkeye and congratulations with achieving another season’s goal.

Lost balls and still down to single's. Well done look how much lower you could go.

I don't need people giving him ideas. I'm looking for a few 0.1's back for him so he's off as high as possible in the winter knockout. He's been there and got the shirt. Let the handicap linger around 10 and let him go low next season! - Only kidding mate. You keep going. Hoping to start dropping soon as I've got Sundance breathing down my neck
