So, the results are in from our 36 hole comp at the weekend and it turns out I came 3rd - whoopee for me :grinning smiley: but that's not the topic of my post.
Going into the comp I was off 10.4 so a playing handicap of 10 for the two rounds: no problem I hear you say. I shot 75-67 Nett over the 2 days so logically I had expected a 0.1 increase and a 0.6 cut. To go back to 9.9. However, here's the thing, the 0.1 increase on Saturday took my exact h'cap to 10.5 so a playing h'cap of 11 and that meant for h'cap purposes, my Nett 67 off 10 becomes a Nett 66 and new h'cap of 9.7 thanks to a 0.8 cut.
So here's strange point number 1. Despite not actually ever playing off of an 11 h'cap I got the benefit of being cut against it.
And even more perculiar, if I had shot 67-75 instead of 75-67, my new h'cap would be 9.9 and not 9.7, despite finishing with exactly the same total.
I know h'caps are calculated against single rounds and how this total is arrived at and don't get me wrong, I'm definately happy with the result, however it did get me wondering whether h'caps for 36 hole comps should be calculated against the playing h'cap for that comp as you could perceivable have 2 players entering the comp with the same h'cap, shooting the same combined score and ending up with different h'caps as a result.
Thoughts?
