The Cost of Taking Your Cubs Abroad

What I would like someone to explain is that provided you do not exceed your weight allowance you can transport almost anything free of charge - a fridge? But 10KG of golf clubs present such a storage and transportation problem that massive fees apply? What's more golf clubs are in handy carry bags not awkward suitcases, boxes, and other items you see roll off the conveyer. It's simply daylight robbery because they know they can.

I read in GM about a company setting up offering club hire in the arrivals area of key golfing destination airports....did this take off. I hope they make a fortune and drive sleazyjet brianair et al into the sea!

If you take Cubs abroad they will put them quarantine!

Yes, well, there are some typos that were made to happen! I was in a restaurant yesterday and they had 'Creamy Camp Potatoes'... who knew a potato could swing both ways!

Flybe are £30 each way.
Thanks for that - their website was doing my head in... up to 40kg free, it said, followed by 'charges apply if you go over 20kg'

I have read your book "Hooked" it's a great read and thoroughly helpful for whenever I'm heading down to another course. Thanks

So you're the person who bought it - thanks.

Yep, they're doing really well - clubstohire.com - the list of airports/destinations is at the end of the blog.

One of the things that really annoys me is that flying outside Europe doesn't seem to be a problem - as several posters have pointed out - but inside Europe it's 'let's whack up the charges'. It's not like it takes any more or less effort to put the clubs on the plane.

I'm going on my first golfing holiday in June, well my friend is getting married on the algarve, but it is at boa vista golf club.

Couldn't believe the prices some were charging, all ready to book with ryanair as it was the cheapest and good flight times, until the dreaded add golf clubs/sports equipment price came back.

Absolute rip off, didn't book that flight and ended up with monarch, 20 quid each way, the saving with Ryanair on the flight ended up being cancelled out with the club check in price.

€176 return for myself & the better half & my clubs to fly to Birmingham with Ryanair for the GM comp last october , the clubs were €80 so it was €76 return for us .. how mad is that ..

I try fly aerlingus as much as possible as i find them alot more professional , but i will say if you want cheap flights & if YOU stick to their rules Ryanair do exactly what it says on the tin , problems occur when people dont read their allowances etc then complain when there is a problem .. that is not the airlines fault its yours..
I have no association or link to either airline by the way ..

I agree they do what they say on the tin, I've flown to Barcelona for less than 60 quid and Frankfurt for less than 20 quid.

What baffles me though is them ripping you off for what is essentially another check in bag, at the same weight

Justvread somewhere today that Jet2 are not charging for clubs on Portugal bound flights.

As for Ryanair they are a complete joke, IMO. Their CEO is to blame as I have always found their cabin crew to be really good.

They just cut a lot of flights from Edinburgh moaning they were being charged too much. Now they know how their passengers feel.
A last resort (excuse the pun) airline for me

Ryanair wanted Edinburgh Airport to start waiving their landing fees, Edinburgh Airport told him to go forth and multiply.

Quite right too! Feel sorry for Ryanair staff as on the occasions I have flown with them, they couldn't do enough to help you.

Their pricing is a rip off though, especially for the on board food and drink.

Additional I do not agree with the statement that if you just walk on with no "extras" then there is nothing else you are charged for.

Their advertised pricing doesn't include check-in, which is a chargeable extra and you have to check in to fly.
