The cost of joining a club

plus £20 bar tab

£20 :ooo:

Why do they bother with that? 2 rounds with a 3 ball and it's gone.

Yeh, I know you can top it up but why not £200 with a 10/15% discount? Encourage peeps to spend a bit in the clubhouse. Benefits the club by having your money up front potentially reducing their o/draft and the members by saving them money.

richardt....you are correct, Hankley charges 4 and Hindhead charges 2

Blackmoor is starting to look like better value the more I look around

That's not encouragement mate that would be extortion - why on earth should anyone be forced to spend that in the bar on top of joining fee/ subs? Bit too extreme a sum if you ask me.

Fair enough Stevie, somewhere in between maybe.

I don't belong to a club yet (see my earlier post about costs in my area) and play with mates as green fees or at pay and play courses. We are not "car park" golfers though and will always repair to the bar/canteen after the game whenever possible. Even as a casual golfer, I'm sure that I spend at least £200 over the course of a year. If I could get a reasonable discount on that, I would be well chuffed.

I think it sad when club members don't support their clubs by using the facilities that are provided, often at a hefty cost to the club, and then complain about the fees.

I hasten to add that this not directed to anyone in particular, just an observation.

My local course (Richings Park) charges £750 per year (1st April - 31st March) with no joining fee.
If you join mid year you pay a pro rata rate. In Oct they had a special deal at £250 for the remained of the membership year. You get various discounts on the food and drink too.
At present I'm just a "Range Member" there but that also gives me food & drink discounts, plus a reduced bucket of balls rate. Well worth the £10 fee!

The closest course to me in Iver (my house over looks it) but I'm not keen on the owner so don't go there.

5 mins drive away is Thornley Park but they have a membership joining fee, £1000 a year fee plus they are exceptional rude! (or at least that was my experience of them).

6 mins drive in the other direction is Stoke Park where they have a "special reduced joint fee of £2000 at the moment - it is normally £8000" plus a membership fee of £8000-9000 depending if you want all of the spa facilities.

I'm pretty well located where I live as I can get to 10 course within a 15 min drive.

We've a few ex Richings Park guys come over to Royal Ascot. Might be worth a look. I'll try and find out some names if I can
