YGT have a deal on for 1 round plus B&B for £99.

It's one on my "must play" list but am I just being an old romantic?! Has anyone played it in the past 12 months and is it still a great golfing experience?

Thanks.

I've played it and while its nice to tick off the so called "must play" list it came up a long way short in terms of quality and condition. There are much nicer "names" to play such as Forest of Arden etc. If anything the PGA National is a better course at the Belfry to play

people do tend to get a bit down on the belfry in general and will claim such and such course is better and only £40, but for playing a course with all the ryder cup history, yes definitely worth playing at that price with B&B... very nice condition when i played it, definitely worth a spin.

just stay away from the budget course at the belfry (dukes??) i only played it once but it was a bit of a shocker...

at that price its maybe worth it, havent been for ages but when I was there it looked tired and not up to the expectations or hype, hopefully it's improved

Amanda, just saw on Twitter they have extended these deals into April, with better weather then its probably a very nice deal as the course should be ok

I played Aug last year, was in great condition & I think its a cracking course (a lot of people seem to disagree), played off the yellows and found it a fairly easy driving course but had you thinking every second shot, there always seemed to be sand/water where I wanted to land the ball or in the way and the greens were lightning.

I'd say its definitely worth it for that money, think you can pay another £50 & play it twice which I would

We had a GM meet their a couple of years ago. It was on my must play list, and I'm pleased I played it, but wouldn't rush back there. It's a nice course, and was in good nick when we played it, the greens were quick and true, fairways nicely manacured and it has it's 2 iconic holes. The rest of the holes, I can't seem to remember to much about them. I'm sure you'll have a great time, and for £99 B&B it'l be a nice break.

are you taking HID or your Pro???????????:whoo:

Ha - definitely HID :ears: Though my pro is welcome to make up a 3 ball - 3 BALL !

There is also a deal for £129 to play the Brabazon and The Derby so that sounds good value...both deals are til the end of April so would leave it as late as possible to play.

Not bad at that price but a vastly overrated course. Flat as a pancake and pretty dull. They ruined a nice bit of farmland when they put this course in....

If you want to play a really nice golf course in that part of the country then Little Aston is in a different league to the Belfry. Everyone tells me that Beau Desert is a much better course too but I have not played there myself.

If I was you at that time of year, I would spend a little more and play a course on the Berkshire / Surrey sand belt. St Georges Hill is cheaper around early Spring and there are plenty of nice hotels with offers in the Weybridge area. A much more enticing prospect than the Belfry.

Cheers,

Snelly.

It's definitely well worth the money. There are some very interesting holes there, the 16th. Where Philip Price tucked-up Phil Mickleson, the 18th. of course with all the Ryder Cup dramatics, and the 10th. where Seve pulled off that dramatic drive onto the green. Go there.

If you have never played it I think you will enjoy it. The memorabilia in the clubhouse is nice to look at also. My only word of advise is upgrade to the PGA National course as opposed to playing the Derby. It's a much nicer course.

I have played the Belfry in the last 18 months and also the Forest Of Arden some years back. I really enjoyed both courses and they are quite different and not far apart if you were thinking of an overnight stay. Don't be put off, they maybe arn't Wentworth but they do have good deals and are very playable

I played it last summer and thought its was in great condition. I've got a work trip to Alton Towers at the end of March so thinking of heading down a day early to take advantage of this and get a custom fit.

Worth booking through Quidco if you're going and you'll get 5% cashback

£99 is a very good deal, particularly if you book when the weather improves. Agree with the others in that the Brabazon is overrated, but it does have some interesting holes that make you think about either your tee shots or approaches to the greens (2, 4, 6, 9, 10, 16 and 18 spring to mind). I have played it about a dozen times over the last few years (the last being in June last year) and the conditioning of the course has always been top-notch, particularly the greens which are excellent. The hotel is in need of a bit of makeover, but room was clean and comfortable and the food was very good.IMO the Belfry experience isn't all about the Brabazon - PGA National is also a decent track and well worth playing if you can. The Pro shop is large and very well stocked (albeit a little pricey) and the range and practice facilities are all good.

Agree with much of what has been said. We did the £99 deal and just walking the Brabazon and recalling all the history of the place was good enough for me. The food was excellent and the accommodation perfectly acceptable.

I think that sums up how I feel about it - the history and images from the TV mean that just playing the course will be great value...

Played it quite a while ago. Unimpressed except for 3 or 4 holes. Don't rate the 10th except for the history.

Other course I played was quite forgettable - and it was the better of the 2!

Does seem good value deal though - better for 3?:mmm:

Heard Little Aston is wonderful.
