Playing at the Astbury on Friday, has anyone played it?

i know its quite new, but i've heard pretty good things about it.

Yes played back in feb/march this year. The course was very quiet but it had taken a lot of rain on it in the days leading up to when I played. It was pretty soft under foot but they did us a good deal from memory.

The course itself is a real good test and the greens and fairways looked excellently maintained. The rough is a real penalty and I would imagine the greens are very tricky in summer conditions. The 18th par 3 is a real feature hole and a potential card wrecker. The clubhouse and the bar were interesting and very modern in style. I didn't see KK during the day but him and the me and my golf lads are never far away.

All in all would certainly recommend the place and would love to take a society there one day.

Me and My golf(youtuble) guys are resident there. I would think there are quite a few course vlogs on their youtube site if thats of any help.

I'm full expecting one of my society to drive to the wrong one! :D
I nearly did that!!
Played a charity day there last year..really enjoyed the course and was 2 under gross with 2 to play and had a triple on the 17th to finish 1 over.
I bid for a 4 ball voucher in the auction and haven't got round to using it yet!

Try not to short side yourself . Greens should be very quick and a couple of holes you have no chance of an up and down if you short side yourself . Also i would get a course planner , couple of holes with blind tee shots and can easily go in wrong direction - 8,9(plenty of room-huge fairway), 13,15(water on the left can't see it from tee ) 16. Have fun !

Played it yesterday in a fire brigade national comp. Apart from the greens being immaculate in evey way the course is dull dull dull dull. The front 9 is like playing golf on the moon. Slap your driver, find your ball and hit it to the green. the front 9 is the easiest I've ever played.
The back 9 is slightly, and i mean slightly more difficult but not what i would call a challenge.

The bunkers at the moment have soooooo much sand in them balls were plugging a few inches just by rolling in.

It was a free day and company made it fun. Just dont go expectng alot

Not experienced any problems with balls plugging in sand . Bit suprised to hear such a negative review for a brand new course that is actually a pleasure to go and play. They can't grow tree lined fairways overnight unfortunately. What did you shoot on this front 9 which is the easiest you've ever played ?

I shot 1 under gross on the front and three over gross on the back. So two over for the day. My handicap is 11

How can a course need time to mature when there's one stake tree every 20 meters? They needed to plant alot more.

As for the sand, it may have been different when you played but yesterday the sand was about 10 inches deep and fluffy as hell

So i played The Astbury last Friday and must say that i thought it was brilliant, especially considering it was only 4 years old.

The greens and general condition of the course was exceptional and would put a lot of TOP courses to shame.

With regards to the course being easy, i dont agree, yes there is some easily reachable par 5's and you can go for some of the par4s if like, but if you dont reach you can be havily punished.

7, 8 and 9 are some tough holes, the greens are very narrow and require pin point approaches.

Also, if the course is so easy, how did you experience the bunkers? just a thought

I only found one bunker on the 18th. My team mate however needed a bucket and spade

I have no issues with how much sand is in a bunker as long as it is consistent in the large majority of bunkers.

I'm guessing the sand may have settled down when you got there as it was soooo fluffy. If you rolled a ball into one then it would immediately plug leaving you with a plugged lie against the back lip.

The greens were amongst the best ive played on but just thought it was a bit bland. On the front i purposely aimed in between fairways. If i hooked it i ended up on my fairway, if i hit one straight then i ended up in light rough and if i pushed a tee shot then i would be on the next holes fairway. thats not golf imo

I'll be honest that was my view on the 2nd. if i pulled it middle of the fairway if i hit it straight, a medium iron into the par 5. but that was only the case on the 2nd and 5th. other than that it was well routed.

give it 10years and it will be top class. shame they arent having competitions or anything, will struggle to attract members. also a shame they didnt put champ tees in to make it over 7000.
