Now this place is what i call a golf course. One of my favourites
Played it yesterday in a fire brigade national comp. Apart from the greens being immaculate in evey way the course is dull dull dull dull. The front 9 is like playing golf on the moon. Slap your driver, find your ball and hit it to the green. the front 9 is the easiest I've ever played.
The back 9 is slightly, and i mean slightly more difficult but not what i would call a challenge.
The bunkers at the moment have soooooo much sand in them balls were plugging a few inches just by rolling in.
It was a free day and company made it fun. Just dont go expectng alot
Not experienced any problems with balls plugging in sand . Bit suprised to hear such a negative review for a brand new course that is actually a pleasure to go and play. They can't grow tree lined fairways overnight unfortunately. What did you shoot on this front 9 which is the easiest you've ever played ?
So i played The Astbury last Friday and must say that i thought it was brilliant, especially considering it was only 4 years old.
The greens and general condition of the course was exceptional and would put a lot of TOP courses to shame.
With regards to the course being easy, i dont agree, yes there is some easily reachable par 5's and you can go for some of the par4s if like, but if you dont reach you can be havily punished.
7, 8 and 9 are some tough holes, the greens are very narrow and require pin point approaches.
Also, if the course is so easy, how did you experience the bunkers? just a thought
I only found one bunker on the 18th. My team mate however needed a bucket and spade
I have no issues with how much sand is in a bunker as long as it is consistent in the large majority of bunkers.
I'm guessing the sand may have settled down when you got there as it was soooo fluffy. If you rolled a ball into one then it would immediately plug leaving you with a plugged lie against the back lip.
The greens were amongst the best ive played on but just thought it was a bit bland. On the front i purposely aimed in between fairways. If i hooked it i ended up on my fairway, if i hit one straight then i ended up in light rough and if i pushed a tee shot then i would be on the next holes fairway. thats not golf imo
