I don’t expect they are looking for Major level viewing but its getting eyes on at the moment

It’s all a bit of fun at the moment and trying to tap into a market ( simulator golf ) that’s very popular

Was a great putt

I don’t think there’s many golfers or general TV viewing population who are describing it as “all a bit of fun”

It’s another way to milk some money out of the game but I don’t think anyone cares who wins it at all…not players and not ‘fans’

Did not see it advertised here, saw the headlines after the event, not that it would have mattered, cannot see myself watching this format no matter who is playing, will not be long and they will want OWGR points. :ROFLMAO:

As light hearted entertainment it serves its purpose. Expecting Major level viewing is naive.

Spot on. A lot of negativity on here about TGL.

I don't think TGL is trying to compete with PGA / DPW / other tours, it's not trying to be LIV, so pointless trying to compare it with majors or tour events.

It's a bit of fun in the "off season". It has the prestige of the Emirates Cup or Audi Cup. It's not trying to replace any other golf, just bring something new and entertaining.

Last year the product wasn't great. My attention span was only about 20 mins, whereas I could easily spend the whole day watching a major. Not a surprise as it was really an experimental prototype. It will be interesting to see if they have evolved anything this year.

It is certainly not for me and more than likely not aimed at me.

However it could be just a simple one off bit of end of season fun and. maybe would be of passing interest.

Somehow the fact that it seems to go on and on makes it less attractive.

When there is no jeopardy and no one cares who wins on the field or off it then it is not sport, which is fine as there are exhibition ‘events’ in a lot of sports just not that go on for a long time.

I think they should bring in celebs and golf "personalities" to give a pro-am vibe. Each match is 3 vs 3 currently, would be more entertining if the teams looked like this:

Justin Rose / Justin Timberlake / Paige Spirinac
v.
Tommy Fleetwood / Gareth Bale / Shakira

That would make it somewhat watchable and at least make it a light hearted attempt at entertainment.

Better still go full old school and bring back the Pre Celebrity challenge matches they used to have and Shells Wonderful world of golf skins games.

I think there needs to be something like that but then some have spent a bit buying the teams

But they need to bring something In during the event with someone who can actually play golf but is an am

It’s only on for 3 months until the main season starts

The one hole I found interesting was the stinger hole which meant that the players had to play a low stinger type shot and it’s something some struggled with

I watch a lot of DPWT and Ladies events,
Find them Far better and more enjoyable viewing than the PGAT events. I watch the Majors obviously but don’t bother with the likes of FedEx events as they’re just dull and pretty much closed shop events.

Tried to watch TGL but it’s like watching the old Jim Davidson Snooker quiz Big Break, pros running around chasing the ball trying to make it look entertaining when really it’s just a bit crap!

The PGA Tour was peak back in 2010-2019. I don't think there was a Sunday evening I didn't spend watching it. Loved the rise of Rose and Donald becoming world number one despite being a short hitter. G-Mac punching way above his weight, Poulter entertaining and his drunken meltdowns on Twitter/Instagram after a bad result. Rory turning up and dominating. Tiger still a beast even with various injuries. It was such a special era for me. I still watched it on a regular basis up until LIV but that just tore the heart out of it IMO. I gave LIV a go but it's just an awful format and you can see why it hasn't taken off. Golf is about winning and then the money follows. In order to get the money you need to win or finish high on the leaderboard. Just giving people vast sums to sign up took away that winning mentality.

TGL just screams panic move to try and do something different.

I also think YouTube golf has made a huge difference to how fans digest the sport these days. I often find myself watching random amateurs on there playing courses I either love or have played plus the usual big names.
