I don't mind using a simulator myself over winter to hit balls, keep swinging, whilst weather outside is awful.

But ain't no way I'd sit and watch grown men hit balls into a giant screen in a warehouse on my TV.....

I can see Americans paying money to go there and watch it live at the venue.
But no chance I'd waste any of my time watching it on TV......Ian M is right, kirstie and phil is more appealing 🤣
 
Any event that has Matt Fitzpatrick is probably going to lack in entertainment.

Although I didn't mind it, and the tech was pretty decent, was hoping it would be a bit more varied.

For example, have a driving comp (based on length and accuracy), an approach game target section, pitching, putting, etc. Then you could maybe play 3 full holes as another round, something like that.

Simply playing 15 holes might feel a bit bland, albeit it is very quick (compared to real golf) and throwing the hammer was an interesting concept.

Pretty sure it will change format over time.

I watched some of it last night and thought it was ok. Ok in the same way I would watch a 'real' tournament on TV when waiting for the football to start (other programs are available) but wouldn't alter my schedule to go out of my way and watch it. Bit of a harmless time filler.
 
To be honest I wasn't expecting to like it, but by god it was dull. Whilst the technology might be impressive I didn't think it translated well to television at all. You couldn't see the ball after it was struck and there was not even ball tracker, they simply moved straight to where it appeared on the screen. There was not even any discernable atmosphere. Definately not for me, and I can't see it taking off in the Europe given the time of live coverage, but maybe it will get more traction in the states.
 
I was anticipating this to be extremely mediocre at best, but (having watched the re-run last night) it is actually better than that; it's still quite 'serious' and as others have suggested it could benefit from having some more fun golf challenges built in. It's reminds me a bit of like if old school Top Gear did golf but less fun.... I can imagine Clarkson & co. smashing balls at reasonably priced SUVs and the crowd loving it. It is an entertainment show ultimately, so the entertainment will have to increase, but it was a good first outing and the technology is impressive.

I can see mileage in this if the teams were made up of 1 or 2 golfers combined with 'celebs' / other sports stars / Youtubers / female players (McIlroy & Charley Hull with Tom Holland & Katherine Newton vs Kisner & Spiranac with Tom Brady & Fat Perez for example), - the 'show' doesn't have to be live either, so it could all be recorded and edited and a polished product put out weekly. Golfers personalities generally don't lend themselves to being micced up - but they do bounce off well others in certain environments (Rahm or Xander on Bob Does Sports for example), but the live environment is difficult.

General consensus seems to be reasonably positive with the show losing momentum in the second half with diminishing crowd engagement; I suspect viewing figures will increase next week with Tiger playing (assuming he picks himself).
 
Like most folks, enjoyed the concept and technology but found coverage blar with too many players and commentators talking at same time .
Highlights package would be good

It was interesting they picked two fairly bland teams to start with. I thought McIlroy and/or Woods would be playing in the debut show (whether you think they are bland or not, their profile is huge at least).

Can't see me getting interested in the team element, but I suppose they are attached to specific Golf Clubs so I guess some will be engaged in that part from the start. I'm not sure what the player's relationships are with those golf clubs, or are they just picked randomly, and how did those golf clubs get involved? I'd probably be more intrigued with teams if it was country related, although I guess most are Americans. Even if you broke it down into states as well, I guess some states are over represented with high profile golfers, and others have none.

I also wondered how dodgy the "live" element could be. The technology is impressive, but technology is never 100% watertight. In a live event, what would happen if the screen went faulty, or the rotating green? Will they just roll out Justin Bieber or Taylor Swift to sing a few songs?
 
Hmmm. I tried it. I’m not sure I liked it.

I’m all for trying different approaches to things, and absolutely get why TGL has been dreamed up, but I’m just not sure taking an outdoor sport like golf and bringing it to what looks like a giant aircraft hangar, really has much longevity.

For novelty value it may be worth an occasional watch if there’s nothing else on, but this is not something I will be reorganising my schedule to see.
 
Definitely has the feel of a bad game show. They've tried to make it too much like regular golf, which isn't really possible, so there is no real selling point (especially for anyone who has seen a golf simulator or video game before) - other than Tiger (any maybe Rory) apparently. The format lacks imagination, there's no actual jeopardy (computer generated cliffs and lava on a big screen isn't it) and the atmosphere was strange - probably not helped by what appears to be a relatively small audience in an unnecessarily large arena that has the acoustics of Victorian swimming baths. And it's impossible to convey how ridiculous having a sad-looking orange cloth called 'the hammer' tossed on the floor looks for a "tech-driven/infused" golf show.

Perhaps it would be better as a pro-am or a pure skills challenge, with some pro tips thrown in. Better presenters would help too, as would a (little) bit of decent interview-style chat with the players (about their game, equipment, plans for the year, and much less about TGL and fawning over Tiger).

I thought it was quite fun. Will I keep watching? Maybe, maybe not. It'd be more enjoyable if I could avoid spoilers on social media.

Proper broadcast or not, the production is no better! Liv also in talks with a major tv company.
 
I've just watched 3 holes....i feel something is missing.....mainly jugs of beer and slices of pizza. Its not much more than a group of mates hiring out their local simulator for an hour.

Needs jazzing up....as has been said....skills (should that be skillz ?) challenges, longest drive, nearest the pin, maybe an opponent playing a joker (its a knockout style) by removing a club from the opponents bag....or each time a shot is hit with a club it cant be used again for the next three holes....force the players to demonstrate their shot making skills in an environment where, in all honesty, it doesn't really matter if they balls up (apart from damaging their egos).

Liv have constantly been in talks with lots of people about lots of things. So whoopy doo.

I wonder what the ages are of the people who don’t like it/don’t get it are?
