I played in my first Texas Scramble yesterday, absolutely loved it!

Teams of 4 - had to find 3 tee shots from each of us (have heard of occasions where it is 4 each as well?) and you couldn't play consecutive shots until you were on the green.

Played with regular playing partners who are off 18 & 16. We also had a 9 handicapper who is a girl in our junior membership. Our handicap worked out at 6.8. We started on our 4th hole, SI 2 - 421yd par 4. I was the last of the gents to tee off, with one drive in sand, and one pulled over to the left leaving about 175 into the pin. Luckily, despite the nerves and a trembling right knee, I managed to pang one straight down the middle to leave us 135-140 into the flag.

It was a cracking day and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We finished on 66, six shots under par, to give us a net 59.2 - the team that won finished with net 56.8 I believe.

Winning prize was qualification for an event of the same format in Bahrain, with hotel stay etc. Gutted to miss out, but really enjoyed the format and the morning's golf. Despite being the highest handicapper in our team, I still managed to contribute with a couple of putts. A few good approaches, and a cracking driver off the fairway on a par 5.

Bloody love this game!

I also love Scramble. I know it takes longer than usual but it really bugs me that many clubs won't allow it. I would love to play a scramble comp this year

I'm not sure it took anywhere near as long usual you know, we seemed to have a really quick pace going on.

It was nice walking onto the greens with only a putter in hand - usually i've parked the buggy alongside the green and i'm walking back to my ball with a putter and at least one other club.

I definitely wouldn't want to play it too often, because it was hard to get into a personal routine etc, but once in a while would be brilliant.

It was a great feeling actually being able to contribute and play a real part in our scoring. Our junior member said I had a 'proper golf swing' too - i'll take compliments like that from a single figure handicapper any day haha!

I love a tex scramble too! One of my favourite formats.
You actually played a tex mex - where you only use 3 shots, all 4 drive and choose one, then the player whose ball is chosen doesn't get to play the next shot, but the other 3 play.
It is slightly quicker than a full texas scramble.

It's a real team game

:D

Our Seniors play a variation called Las Vegas Scramble. The 4 players are assigned a number 1 to 4. After all 4 have teed off on each hole, we have a throw of the dice. If your number comes up, your drive is used. If 5 or 6 comes up, you can use any drive. You can imagine the fun and games.

Yeah that's the bad boy Heidi, cheers, good call!

I think it's a 'fairer' format than a full Texas scramble, and helps weaker players like myself feel a part of it and make a contribution to the team. Think that probably helped me play better too!

Oh I like! I might suggest that one for a new comp...!! All I need to do is find a suitable date and a trophy!

Love texas scrambles: so do most of the members at our golf club. i fact we have decided to add an other version of a texas scramble to our match schedule this year a 3,2,1. All 3 team menbers drive, one drive is picked and the other two players play the second shot, the third shot is played by only player not to have played, the fourth shot if required is played all three again.
Has anyone played this game before havent spoke to anyone who has tried it.
