Think there will be quite a few more this year, all from that same era when they came to the fore and hit the stage and popularity in 60's & 70's Which we all grew up in, 87yrs old is not a bad innings.

Think he was 77, which I suppose is your 3 score years and 10 plus 10%. But not really old in this day and age, another victim of Cancer

He was the best ever radio dj ever,loved his wit and humour and of course he was an avid golfer.
highlight of the morning used to be the latest Janet & John sketches,absolutely hilarious.

Ialways remember his first ever tv chat show ,he came on and started walking down the steps on the stage ,and fell a*se over tit.a slightly embarrassed Mr Wogan was then seen walking to his chair.
great man ,did a huge amount for charity and pudsey will never be the same.
he was the only reason to ever watch the eurovision song contest ,he made it the best comedy show on the box.
and of course who out of all us golfers will forget that he once held the record for the longest ever televised putt .
he will be sorely missed.

On a holiday to Canada to see some friends, the six of us were in the mini van listening to some Janet and John stories we had on CD, this kids were only bairns, our daughter would have been 12 and our friends son 7, we had just listened to the story about john taking a journalist up the oxo tower, the innuendo, not lost on the adults and we were in stiches, tears of laughter, the kids looking well puzzled and confused. There was moments silence as we composed ourselves, then Stevie, our friends son piped up, "Mom has dad ever taken you up the oxo tower", I damn near nearly crashed the van. The kids then started making up their own Janet and John stories.

A great holiday, and great memories made that little bit more special by Sir Terry's Janet and John stories.

He said a few years ago in an interview I heard, that the only thing that got him through this yearly musical extravaganza was consuming a bottle of baileys. His sarcastic quips did get funnier the more the evening wore on

Great man with class and someone who really did deserve the title of "sir". When I was small my irish grandparents loved him,always had him on the radio and TV.
Very sad that he suddenly gone, did not know he was unwell. RIP

as a youngster i could not stand him and his whitterings on Radio when i used to get a lift to school.

but when i got to be a grumpy old man myself, i got it and always listened to him on R2, I was very sad he gave up the slot.

I was golfing this morning and just heard.

I wrote so much material for him that he used on his shows and it was his encouragement that got me into writing

A fellow PG Wodehouse fanatic and one of the good guys!

Will be sadly missed.

Much like Patrick, my parents loved him & I didn't get it as a kid. As I grew older I came to appreciate just how good and how funny he was, became the breakfast show of choice and was sadly missed when he packed it in. The Janet & John stories were the stuff of legend; I remember one that involved him "thpeaking" with a lisp, and you could tell that he, Deadly, Lynn, Sally Traffic and in all probability anyone else in the studio were crying with laughter. A gentleman and a gentle man, and as has been said already one who deserved his knighthood more than most, and whose efforts for Children in Need over the years should not be overlooked.

RIP and thank you Sir Terry, a unique broadcaster.

I believe that he was a member at Lambourne Golf Club in Bucks. Both I and his other listener will miss his whimsical, self-deprecating sense of humour.
