Temporary Handicap

oh, and dodger, completely off thread, but are we likely to be visiting you again next Feb?

I'm even getting a carry bag but can't find one to compete with Andy's.

Looking Very likely I would say,I will be putting it to the masses come Sept/Oct time but I would say there will be enough interest for a re match taking in the same format and price (hopefully).

Never heard of it , must be an English thing :) to be honest i've got one every week standing on that first tee its scratch then i start playing ,never mind maybe one day (dream on big guy) :D. In the land where the game started you only get one handicap and thats that ,temporary my arse

I thought you had to put three cards in to get a handicap. At most courses I know once you have the handicap you can enter comps for qualifying purposes and then play in them once you have the requisite number (normally 3) of qualifiers in. It is a hard way for newbies to get involved but at leat the handicap is sorted and can be adjusted when the qualifiers are handed in.

I don't think (unless I'm totally mistaken which isn't unknown) that there is such thing defined in the rules of golf or the CONGU site as a temporary handicap (unless you live in Bootle)

The detective nose is twitching....(where's Tony?)
1) an English thing....yup, tick
2) live in Bootle....yup, tick

only need one more clue for "Bingo"...!

Maybe I should txt the BBC to see if they can help?

Maybe IP knows the answer....he's just gone up to a temporary handicap of 7.0

The way it was explained to me was that you put three cards in off of the yellows that gave you a temporary then three off the whites for your full, as i've gone straight for the whites and not the yellows, (my assumption was that all comps would be played off of the whites so why bother with the yellows) this must be a full handicap, i've just checked Master Scoreboard and it's down as First Award.

It shouldn't but it almost certainly does.
At mine you can get your first handicap off the yellows, thereafter any change is from the whites.

In theory, you could/should get a lower h/cap off the yellows which would put you at a bit of a disadvantage in your first comps.

Sadly, this is true at mine. I got mine off the winter mats and then the secretary handed my h'cap without taking into account the winter mat SSS.

I would advise anyone to simply turn down the opportunity to play 3 cards off the shorter courses. Play your cards off white......otherwise, you might spend 2 years trying to get your h'cap correct.

I played the last 4 holes 1 under gross for my best card. I've never managed better than 4 bogeys since....

:(
