Televisions - Again

LED back lit or Plasma.

I'm looking at 47 inch plus, full HD with 3 hdmi minimum.

I've never been a fan of plasma because of screen burn but I've been told this is no longer an issue. I've always said LED, LED, LED! But now it's my own cash plasma is cheaper and have great specs.

Going shopping tomoz so your thoughts please

I have an LG 47" LED TV since Xmas Eve 2011 and would recommend it. They are good job. Plasma is now IMO old technology.

Just ordered the LG 47LM669T last night. Have viewed other LG's in store and was highly impressed. Cant wait to get it delivered and setup. Golf in 3D is sounding more appealing lol

And the Mrs also had a 30% voucher which made it even sweeter.

Plasma is still by far the best quality picture and closest to natural colours, LED/LCD are good but if you watch movies and sport you'll want Plasma- forget screen/image retention its a thing of the past- I found a belter of a tv recently that even outshines my Pioneer kuro (at the time the Kuro was the benchmark for TV quality). So do yourself, your eyes and your wallet a favour and seek out the Samsung PS51E6500 its around £665 just now and is a steal for that price (Currys had them at £1100 not 8 weeks ago).

P.S be careful of the pic quality you see in shops, its usually set up in Dynamic mode (bright and vivid colours) as that suits the harsh lighting in a retail shop, when home the dynamic mode could burn your eyes..........

P.P.S The sammy is a smart 3D TV so does everything you will need

I know a few guys with Samsung TVs. All have had starting problems with them. 1 guy a real tech geek has had his repaired 3 times now. I was going for 1 but got the LG instead as it was on offer and got excellent reviews.
Phillips are considered among the Top TVs and usually win awards but they are very pricey too.

The good point with the 3D LG is you can use the glasses from the cinema. Only £2.50 a pair in my local one.

You could try Tesco as well. The big Tesco in my town have lots of top brand TVs. And prices are pretty keen too. Plus you get the club card points too.

Doesn't get the best review for gaming with an X Box due to input lag.

I can't see it being a massive problem. Not even sure what this 'lag' is

He said composite was a terrible quality pic getting better on HDMI.

Don't know about lag either. I am sceptical about what I read on AVForums at times.

Hardcore gamers use a 120hz led monitor and a gaming PC.

I believe the lag for TV gaming is up to 3 seconds and is an issue for online gaming. Such as in COD others can see you and be shooting you before you are aware of it on your screen.

That's my rough idea on what it is. But stand to be corrected.

I understand lag due to Internet connection but lag from the output xbox to the TV should be hardly noticeable. Going tomorrow with the hope of being able to decide...

Recently treated myself to a new Samsung 50" LED.

Had a 50" Panny Plasma before this which I have passed on to my daughter.
Picture quality on the new one is a bit hit and miss. HD content (either from the inbuilt FreeSat tuner or from Blu ray) is fantastic. Better than the Panasonic. SD content is a bit more on a conundrum. Some channels are OK but others are quite "wishy washy". But that was the same with the Panasonic anyway, so overall I am very pleased.
I didn't want 3D as I don't plan on either buying a 3D Blu ray player and I have absolutely no intention of subscribing to SKY so it was wasted technology for me.
Where the new one does score is on it's physical size. My old Panasonic had quite a thick bezel on it, especially along the bottom edge. The Samsung's is tiny in comparison, and although the screen size is identical at 50" it looks much, much smaller in the room. I popped down my daughters over Christmas and looking at the Panasonic again after a couple of weeks with the Samsung made me realise just how big the bloody thing was, and I can understand why Sam used to moan about it sometimes!
I won't get drawn into the "which is better, Plasma or LED/LCD argument".....I was quite happy with my Plasma when I had it, but the Samsung knocks spots off of it where HD is concerned. But my new one is full HD @ 1080p whereas my Panny was only "HD ready" @ 1080i so could be the difference I guess.
