when i tee off with a iron on a par 3 for eg i dont use a tee. i like to put the ball straight on the deck and pretend i'm on the fairway. my pro said you should always use a tee, even if its all the way in. this is to produce an ideal lye. however, every time i've tried this i thin the shot. maybe in my head i know its off the ground and therefore trying to lift the ball.

anyone else get this. what do you use? tee or no tee?

depends on quite a few things for me

the condition of the teeing area

the type of flight/shape i want on the shot

and not always 50% of the time only on long irons 3,4,5 maybe 6 rarely 7

also if im between clubs and feel i need force the shorter club in rather than ease down on the longer one,

but for a majority of ppl id agree with your pro

i'm guessing you do this because like the majority of amateur golfers, you probably have an out to in swing and a fade/slice shot path.

If you approach from teh inside, you'll take a tee any time you can get one

Ho wmany pros dont use a tee on tour ???

I think they ar eprob right

I used to tee up anything that was 6 iron and bigger and play from the deck with the shorter irons. It worked well until I started using tee's with 7,8,9 too and I find my contact is cleaner and much better. I still use a wedge off the deck for any really short par 3.

Tee every time. I take any small advantage I can get and I also consider it a courtesy to other players of the course not to make a right mess of the teeing ground by taking a huge divot.

Tee every time for me, PW included.

Still take a dirty great divot though. Trying to pick the ball clean off a tee sounds like a recipe for a case of stinging fingers to me.
